RN Details

Essential Job Duties:

The Public Health Nurse (PHN) will assist in the development and management of all funding related to the nursing divisions, in conjunction with the health officer and local board of health.

The PHN will attend all local health board meetings and provide a report regarding quarterly activities.

The PHN will administer immunizations and medications if necessary and educate clients on potential side effects.

The PHN will contact local health providers and community agencies to make referrals if necessary.

The PHN will identify health needs in the community and create and facilitate programs.

The PHN will organize clinics and provide education related to health care, nutrition, safety, communicable disease, and substance abuse.

The PHN will investigate, and monitor reports of communicable diseases as required by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and coordinate efforts with physicians, schools, and others regarding spread and treatment of disease.

The PHN will review documentation in charts periodically to ensure compliance with federal and state rules and regulations.

The PHN must ensure that clinical documentation regarding clients is kept secure and confidential, according to HIPAA.

The Case Manager aspect will assist the RN’s and providers will patient placement, home health care set up, home oxygen, and will be the Union Hospital Clinton’s swing bed coordinator.

License/Certification:

The PHN must be able to enter and access information using a computer and programs as identified by ISDH, exercise independent judgment and work well with other people.

The PHN must additionally recognize and respect the effects of cultural, ethnic, and linguistic differences on health care practices.

The PHN must have good written and verbal communication skills, be detail oriented, and be accurate when evaluating health care situations.

The PHN must possess at a minimum an associate degree however a bachelor’s degree is preferred

Must have active IN RN license

Must have graduated from an accredited nursing program

A minimum of two years of nursing experience

Must have active BLS certification.
