The Sr. Engineering Software Manager is responsible for leading the product development software team. The role will be responsible for overseeing and leading the software team supporting the development and design of new software systems, as well as continuous improvement of current product solutions. This person is also responsible for maintaining the technical competencies of the team through mentoring, training, evaluation, and recruitment. This role requires both team leadership and individual contributor skills.What Will You Do?   In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for: 

Plan and implement both embedded and cross-platform software design and development of new and existing products.

Lead the software design team for feasibility and development projects.

Manage priority issues, estimate resource needs, and track resource allocation.

Ensure that the software design team delivers their work with the necessary quality and within the specified time frame.

Lead the embedded software development for electronic technologies, such as microcontroller systems, motor controls, and wireless communication systems.

Ensure the quality of the embedded software meets functional safety, regulations, and standards, and all product requirements, including risk assessments and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA.)

Lead cross-platform software development for diagnostic and support tools on Windows, Unix, Android, and iOS platforms.

Set standards and expectations for software design practices.

Evaluate existing technologies, and support existing products throughout their lifecycle.

Provide technical mentoring and team member development in software design, testing, and regulatory compliance.

Coordinate design activities with other departments, suppliers, and partners, including the exchange of information and documentation.

Drive collaboration among cross-functional partners from Engineering, Testing, Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, etc. to achieve organizational goals.

Collaborate with remote teams at other locations within the organization.

Drive collaboration between testers and developers to promote best in class software development.

What Do You Need?  

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements: 

Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited program

Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or Business Management (preferred)

Professional registration (preferred)

Ten or more (10+) years of experience in embedded software development in C/C with hands on experience in product design, testing and manufacturing processes required

Project lead/team lead experience (preferred)

Five or more (5+) years of supervision experience (preferred)

Strong customer orientation and the ability to anticipate customer needs

Experience with complex electrical, mechanical, and software design and integration for embedded electronics and controls products strongly preferred.

Experience in product specification development and system engineering for complex systems required.

Experience in requirements decomposition and test traceability strongly preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including active listening skills

Motivated to share knowledge with coworkers

Ability to guide and mentor to team members at all levels

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects

Ability to build relationships and lead by influence

Experience in product development and project management, including proven track record of developing detailed project plans, meeting project deadlines, and holding cross-functional teams accountable for project deliverables and commitments.

Demonstrated experience leading a significant, cross-divisional or corporate wide initiative.

It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
