B&M Consultant Engineers will work well with FM Global clients from many different industries, with an eventual emphasis on those with power generation operations. Experienced engineers will use their expertise to advise clients to protect their facilities against mechanical and electrical breakdowns, as well as hazards related to processes, production, and many others. As a Boiler and Machinery Consultant Engineer, you will develop strong client relationships to advise on risks associated with client businesses as well as develop and implement risk improvement strategies.Responsibilities:

Evaluate the integrity and reliability of client production equipment, support systems, and utilities. Evaluate equipment, identify hazards and deficiencies, and deliver focused risk improvement solutions to reduce the client’s risk.

Apply FM Global Loss Prevention Data Sheets and operating procedures to provide consistent risk analysis and quantification as well as implement standard processes.

Prepare engineering reports and loss expectancies to support risk improvement.

Collaborate with Operations Engineering, Client Services, Account Management and Underwriting on Boiler & Machinery recommendations.

Engineers will work from a home office in either the greater Chicago/NW Indiana region or Milwaukee region (employee’s choice) and manage their time and work independently with minimal direction.

This is a field-based role and will require travel to large, complex industrial client sites to evaluate the operations and systems of the site and identify risks and hazards. Expected overnight travel once fully trained is 30%-40%. Travel during the training period could be higher depending on location and availability of the designated training mentors. The initial training period is 12-16 months.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred, but bachelor’s degrees in other engineering proficiencies would also be acceptable for the right candidate.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the power generation industry or experience in working with power generation equipment and systems at other high hazard industries such as chemical and pulp and paper manufacturing. Title and compensation will be commensurate with level of experience.

Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment and systems such as switchgear, transformers, turbines, generators, compressors, boilers, pressure vessels, system interrelationships as well as the associated safety devices for equipment and systems.

Familiarity with asset integrity management / strategies and process safety are strongly preferred!

Demonstrated experience to understand basic machinery and equipment along with hands on exposure.

Strong verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in MS Office products are required.

Must be analytical, organized and have good problem solving and interpersonal skills.

A valid driver’s license is required as a company car is provided.

Physical Requirements:

Able to lift up to 25 pounds

Able to climb ladders

Able to tour/walk large manufacturing sites for up to 4-6 hours daily during a client visit
