Job DescriptionWelcome to RUSH!Summary:The CNA Support Technician (CST) is responsible for performing a variety of clerical and clinical functions to support effective communication and assist the Registered Professional Nursing (RN) staff in the efficient operation of the nursing unit. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.Responsibilities:Under the direct supervision of the unit RNs, the CST is responsible for obtaining patient vital signs, heights and weights, blood glucose levels, assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), transfers, and mobility skills, skin, bowel and bladder programs, and maintains a clean, safe environment for the patient. Essential duties of the job include but are not limited to: Assures patients are ready for meals and assists with feeding as appropriate Performs blood glucose checks 30 minutes before meals as directed by the RN and reports and documents blood sugar levels to the RN Informs RN immediately of any change in patient’s condition Communicates effectively with patients at a level appropriate to age and cognitive status, showing sensitivity to cultural diversity Interacts effectively with peers and other hospital staff to foster positive working relationships Documents accurately and timely in Epic and at point of care Does not leave clinical area without permission of charge RN Enhances patient satisfaction by hourly rounding and prompt response to call lights Follows CDC guidelines for handwashing and follows appropriate isolation precautions Promptly places patients on unit census upon admission and promptly discharges patient from the electronic medical record upon discharge from the hospital or transfer to another unit. Performs a variety of clerical duties to support patient care process Functions as a receptionist for the unit Orders and maintains adequate supplies for the unit Maintains patient’s paper chart.Other information:Required Job Qualifications: Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and have a high School diploma Be current in CPR and have requisite CNA clinical skills as well as being analytical and possessing good interpersonal skills.Physical Demands: Able to stand and to walk 67% to 100% of the shift; Able to sit, climb, kneel and crawl 1% to 10% of shift. Carry 10 lbs or less up 66% of the shift, lift up to 74 pounds.
