Coordinates, performs and implements fire and life safety compliance activities (i.e.: fire and life safety policies and procedures, educational training, environmental rounds, emergency response activities, reporting and documentation review, etc.). Complies with and monitors compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.Serves as the Fire and Life Safety Specialist for the health system by developing, coordinating, monitoring, and maintaining the Life Safety/Fire Prevention Program. Activities include; scheduling and evaluating fire drill performance, conducting fire drills, evaluating facility construction plans to identify safety concerns, and invoking interim lifesafety measures whenever features of life safety are compromised.Investigates, coordinates all non-compliant fire and life safety issues within the medical center, grounds and designated off-site locations. Continuously monitors the environment and initiates reporting and corrective action for identified life safety deficiencies. Activities include; monitoring the installation, testing and maintenance/monitoring of fire detection/control systems, investigating and correcting fire hazards, assisting department manager with any necessary follow-up required by a regulatory agency, etc.)Designs and conducts continuing education/training sessions for employees to maximize their safety and provide a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Instructs associates on proper safety techniques in accordance with policies & procedures, local, state, and federal regulations.Actively participates in appropriate safety related committee/meetings; Attends and reports to the Environment of Care Committee, Member of Environmental Health & Safety Committee, and other committees as assigned. Supports the Security department for fire drills and fire response trainings.Provides consulting services to the health system that may include professional advice, recommendation, evaluation, inspection, training development, assistance, or other tasks. Makes necessary recommendations as appropriate to ensure regulatory and accreditation agency compliance (OSHA, IDPH, NFPA, CAP, CARF, The Joint Commission, EPA, DOT, etc) Responds to emergency situations and requests as well as fulfilling on-call duties on a rotating basis (24 hours a day, seven days a week).Promotes the Magis goals of customer service (care, concern, respect, cooperation) through interactions with other departments and supervision of staff. Activities include acting as a Liaison with contractors, vendors, municipal fire departments, and other community partners.Develops, maintains and monitors all life safety documentation for the health system. Documentation includes fire drill critiques, environmental tour summaries, emergency response procedures, and ILSM implementation.
