North Shore Congregation, located in Glencoe, IL seeks a part-time Custodian (20 hours/week). This non-exempt position reports to the Building Engineer.
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in and around our building. This includes cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, offices, classrooms, hallways, and other public areas, as well as performing minor maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors.
Dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, and fixtures.
Clean and disinfect restrooms; replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly.
Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.
Maintain cleanliness of entryways, stairwells, and common areas.
Set up and take down furniture or equipment for events as needed.
Report maintenance issues or safety hazards to the supervisor.
Ensure that all cleaning materials are used and stored in compliance with safety regulations.
Lock and unlock doors and buildings as required.
Qualifications:
Access to personal transportation
Able to pass a background check
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prior custodial or janitorial experience is a plus.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
Basic knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment.
Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand/walk for extended periods.
Fluent in both English and Spanish preferred.
Working Conditions:
May be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, and other environmental factors.
Work may be performed during evenings, early mornings, or weekends depending on shift.
