LINE COOK

We are looking for a passionate and skilled Line Cook to join our team at Felix Modern American Diner, a Chicago restaurant based in the East Lakeview Neighborhood that pays homage to the classic dishes of the 1960’s-1970’s with a twist of modern-day fare and international flavor profiles.

As a line cook, you will play a vital role in our kitchen, ensuring that every dish is prepared with consistency, flavor and quality. You’ll work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment where teamwork, efficiency, and passion for great food are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Execution:

1. Prepare and execute high-quality dishes according to the restaurant’s recipe and standards.

2. Maintain proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures to ensure food safety and kitchen cleanliness.

3. Work on assigned station (grill, saute, fry, prep, ect.) while coordinating with other team members to ensure smooth service.

4. Properly season, taste, and adjust dishes as needed to ensure flavor balance.

5. Follow portion and presentation guidelines for consistency.

6. Handle special requests and dietary accommodations as needed.

Kitchen Operations & Organization:

7. Set up and stock stations with all necessary ingredients and supplies before, during and after service.

8. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace in compliance with health and safety regulations.

9. Rotate and label all ingredients to maintain freshness and prevent food waste.

10. Assist in receiving, inspecting, and properly storing deliveries.

11. Follow proper knife skills, cutting techniques, and food handling procedures.

12. Monitor and control food waste, ensuring efficiency in prep and execution.

13. Maintain kitchen equipment and report any maintenance needs.

Teamwork & Communication:

14. Work in a team-oriented environment, working collaboratively with the Executive Chef, Chef de Cuisine, Sous Chef, and fellow line cooks to ensure smooth service.

15. Communicate effectively with expo staff and Front-of-House staff to ensure accurate and timely food delivery to table.

16. Adapt to a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.

Quality Control & Food Safety:

17. Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.

18. Monitor food temperatures and proper storage procedures.

19. Ensure all dishes meet the restaurant’s high-quality standards before the leave the kitchen.

20. Minimize food waste through proper prep and portioning techniques.

We are looking for both full-time and part-time positions

Requirement:

Minimum 2 year(s) experience as a line cook in a high-volume casual to up-scale casual restaurant.
