Job Description

Title: Baker/Pastry Cook

Reports To: Executive Chef and Banquet Chef

Role Summary: The Baker/Pastry Cook is responsible for the preparation and production of all bakery and pastry preparations. The Baker will produce bread, pastries, and other baked goods for the restaurant and banquet events. This role will ensure the standard procedures for each batch includes checking the condition of ingredients, following instructions for recipes, and examining the quality of the final product.

Responsibilities:

Prepare workstation for baking, measure, and weigh ingredients.

Measure and combine ingredients and using mixers, blenders, heat sources, and other equipment to make baked goods, such as cookies, crackers, bread, cakes, etc.

Shape dough to prepare different types of pastries, including croissants, cookies, and sweet rolls. Knead, roll, cut, and shape dough.

Monitor baking process and adjust oven temperature or item positioning as needed.

Set-up glasses/plates for functions; portion desserts for events.

Bake all items required for all banquet functions, ala carte and any dessert items required.

Follow all set recipes and specification sheets and offer ideas and suggestions to improve.

Stock and maintain a pastry room and walk-in cooler, that is both prepped and sanitary, ensure all ingredients are both fresh, dated, labeled and in-stock.

Review and compile a thorough preparation list after analyzing banquet event orders.

Assist all other areas as needed to learn & grow within the department.

The ability to work quickly and with focus, especially during periods of business.

Testing ingredients and finished goods to ensure each item meets food safety & quality.

Organize walk-in, wipe down shelves, and detail pastry shop as needed.

Cleaning and restocking workstations and ensuring that all equipment is sanitized and prepared for the next shift.

Strong communication, time management, and planning skills.

Attention to detail, especially when completing a finished product.

Work independently or with other team members as necessary.

Flexibility to work early in the morning, night, weekend, and holiday availability.

Requirements

At least 2 years’ experience in a baking or pastry role.

Must be able to walk and stand for the duration of the shift, up to 10 hours per day.

Must be able to hear, see, smell and taste at all times.

Ability to work in a hot and loud environment for the majority of the day.

Basic math, measurement, and computer skills.

Must be able to bend, reach and use hands constantly.

Must be able to operate appliances and ovens.

Must be able to lift, push, pull up to 50lb pounds constantly.

Compensation: Hourly (Based on Experience)
