Transportation Design EngineerJob DescriptionDesign transportation improvement projects with guidance from a sr Engineer or Project Manager. Follow local, state, and federal guidelines for transportation, traffic, and drainage designs. Develop project specifications and quantity estimates, and apply engineering principles to create horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadways and drainage projects.Responsibilities
Design transportation improvement projects with guidance from a sr Engineer or Project Manager.
Follow local, state, and federal guidelines for transportation, traffic, and drainage designs.
Use guidelines from IDOT, ITE, NACTO, and MUTCD.
Develop project specifications and quantity estimates.
Create horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadways and drainage projects.
Apply the Highway Capacity Manual for traffic designs.
Prepare plans and bid documents using tools like MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, and Excel.
Coordinate with utilities to document locations and analyze conflicts.
Essential Skills
Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation
Experience in transportation and roadway design
B.S Degree in Civil Engineering
EIT and/or IL PE license
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to mentor and develop less experienced engineers
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Rural and urban drainage design experience
Experience with IDOT and municipal/county clients
Ability to interface with clients and participate in public meetings
