Description:JOB ANNOUNCEMENTSUPERVISING PLANNER (West & Southeast Regions)DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING & DEVELOPMENTBureau of Planning & DesignNumber of Positions: 2Starting Salary: $94,500.00Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on 10/09/2024Under direction, manages and supervises professional staff engaged in coordinating projects relating to the development and revitalization of residential, commercial, and industrial communities and the review of development proposals and plans; and performs related duties as requiredESSENTIAL DUTIES· Supervises and evaluates the work of professional staff engaged in the development review process, land sale, and/or site acquisition projects, neighborhood, and region-based urban design plans and proposals· Establishes and oversees the implementation of work standards, policies, and procedures within established deadlines to meet critical milestones· Provides urban design expertise in the development, adaptation, and review of development proposals and plans· Assists in the development and implementation of the bureau’s long-range and short-term initiatives· Conducts technical reviews of development projects and advises on proposed recommendations· Arranges and participates in public commission, city council, and community engagement activities· Collaborates with locally elected officials, other City departments, and stakeholders involved in the development review process, planning processes, and initiatives· Summarizes and presents planning and design report findings to senior management· Manages consultants conducting land use planning and economic feasibility studies· Monitors the implementation of public and private development projects· Assists in the development of the bureaus annual budgetAdditional duties may be required for this positionLocation: City Hall, 10 th FloorDays: Monday – Friday (occasional weekend hours may be required)Hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm (occasional evening hours may be required)THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICEQualifications:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS· Graduation from an accredited college our university with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning, or a directly related field, plus five (5) years of planning or urban design work experience, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; OR· Graduation from an accredited college our university with a Master’s degree or higher in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning, or a directly related field, plus four (4) years of planning or urban design work experience, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the positionSELECTION REQUIREMENTSThis position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:· Master’s degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning, or Landscape Architecture· Knowledge of Chicago neighborhoods, zoning, design, and planning policies· Experience working with local elected officials and the development industryAPPLICATION EVALUATION: Initial evaluation will be based on the information provided on the application and the documents submitted.
