Description:JOB ANNOUNCEMENTSupervising InvestigatorBureau of Internal AffairsChicago Police DepartmentNumber of Positions: 3Under supervision, supervises staff engaged in the investigation of cases involving allegations of criminal activity, official misconduct, and residency violations by City employees, including large-scale and complex investigations, and performs related duties as required.ESSENTIAL DUTIES· Maintaining supervision of, assigning, and overseeing all pending investigations assigned to an Investigator under their supervision.· Monitoring and directing the progress of all investigations assigned to an Investigator under their supervision.· Reviews complaints and allegations, assigns cases to investigation staff· Reviews investigation reports prepared by staff for completeness of information and to assess findings and recommendations.· Coordinates large-scale investigations requiring coordination between departments and outside agencies.· Monitors staff’s use of surveillance equipment and conduct of covert investigations· Administers drug and alcohol tests to employees, as required· Testifies in court, arbitrations, and Personnel Board hearings on investigations conducted and findings.· Prepares reports of completed investigations and staff performance for management review· Confers with management and the Department of Law on legal issues relating to investigative activitiesNOTE : The list of essential duties is not intended to be inclusive; there may be other duties that are essential to particular positions within the class.Location: 3510 S. Michigan Avenue (Police Headquarters)Days: Monday through FridayHours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.Salary: $80,628THIS POSITION IS NOT IN THE CAREER SERVICEQualifications:Minimum QualificationsEducation, Training, and Experience· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in the Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Human Resources or a directly related field, plus three years of work experience in the conduct of investigations of criminal or fraudulent activity OR three years of work experience in the performance of fact finding analyses and investigative research and reporting; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required Availability to work any duty watch is requiredDisclaimer - "Accredited" means any nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or law school where the applicant is enrolled in or has completed an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Juris Doctorate degree program.SELECTION REQUIREMENT : This position requires applicants to complete an interview and assessment. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected for hire.Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:· Five years experience investigating criminal and fraudulent activity· Experience with testifying in court for arbitrations, and Personnel Board hearings· Two years experience supervising in investigation setting.VETERANS PREFERENCE: The City of Chicago offers Veterans Preference to both current active military personnel AND military personnel who have served in the Armed Forces of The United States and have received an honorable or general discharge.
