Join Optum Digital as a Principal Software Engineer. You will have the role of champion for quality and engineering best practices and mentoring junior engineers while bringing a fun and energizing experience to work every day. The "Find Care" team is leveraging technology and data to develop tools to allow members to find health care that fits their needs, whether it's finding an in-network provider, choosing in-network facility, getting an estimate for any procedure (from simple office visits to complex care paths), or scheduling a virtual visit. As part of the United Healthcare Group, we have the opportunity to work on problems at scale and innovate to meet the demands of a challenging industry.

As a Principal Software Engineer you will be part of the development team of talented and driven engineers building data integrity solutions utilizing Scala technologies and Elasticsearch.

These positions include, but are not limited to analysis, design, coding, engineering, testing, debugging, standards, methods, tools analysis, documentation, research and development, maintenance, new development, operations and delivery. With every role in the company, each position has a requirement for building quality into every output. This also includes evaluating new tools, new techniques, strategies; Automation of common tasks; build of common utilities to drive organizational efficiency with a passion around technology and solutions and influence of thought and leadership on future capabilities and opportunities to apply technology in new and innovative ways.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, Development, and Testing of Cloud Native Services/Microservices using Scala/Java or another compiled language
  • Interpreting requirements into application design
  • Agile development through collaborating with Business, Product, and QA
  • Ensuring the quality, architecture, and accuracy of released code
  • Be an individual contributor (very hands-on) as well as able to guide and mentor team members
  • CI/CD integration with Jenkins, Github
  • Familiar with Monitoring/Logging tools such as Splunk and DataDog
  • You have unit testing experience (prefer Scalatest/Mockito/ScalaCheck)
  • Understanding client strategy and business objectives
  • Ensuring on schedule, on budget, on scope delivery within client quality goals
  • As solutions are proposed, present cost impact analysis to our operating budget

Required Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of real industry experience
  • Unit testing experience (prefer Scalatest/Spec2/ScalaCheck)
  • Commercial experience with distributed, high-performance systems
  • Database and caching experience, SQL and NoSQL
  • Background in Scala/Java or another compiled language, along with expert-level development
  • Knowledge of REST/Http, json and backend systems

Preferred Qualifcations:
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical role or the equivalent experience
  • Experience with cloud-based services and hosting (AWS, EC2)
  • Experience with Postgres, Elasticsearch, and/or MongoDB
  • Healthcare knowledge
  • Familiarity with API platforms such as Mashery or Kong
  • Exposure to JavaScript-based framework like React or Angular

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900.
