Area Manager

The Area Manager is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive understanding of schedules and daily operations to monitor all aspects of the business effectively through strong communication and documentation. This role includes managing staff performance, maintaining a well-organized facility, and supporting the overall growth and success of the company by fostering productivity and accountability in all departments.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff Management: Supervise and hold all staff accountable for attendance, performance, and adherence to company policies. Lead the hiring, onboarding, disciplinary, and termination processes.

Operational Oversight: Required to carry a company phone. Open and close the building daily, ensuring the facility is prepared for operations and secured at the end of the day. Ensure that departments have put things back in place maintaining an orderly and efficient warehouse.

Performance and Engagement: Conduct performance reviews, 30-60-90-day check-ins for new hires, and regular check-ins with employees to provide feedback and support. Organize employee engagement activities such as office birthdays and team celebrations.

Administrative Coordination: Handle supply ordering, vendor deliveries, and office-related needs to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Employee Management

Enforce company policies and expectations across all staff levels including but not limited to attendance, dress code, and safety compliance.

Receive and coordinate absence requests with department supervisors.

Ensure accurate clock in/out times for all staff including lunch times.

Manage the lifecycle of employees by conducting interviews, onboarding new hires, completing 30-60-90-day check-ins, and facilitating a smooth offboarding process when necessary.

Complete and document quarterly 1:1 meetings and an annual performance review with all staff, providing constructive feedback, clear actions for improvement as needed, and receiving feedback from staff for departmental improvement.

Plan and execute activities including monthly birthday parties, quarterly team building activities/events, and individual team member recognition tailored to individual preferences to maintain high morale and a positive work culture.

Serve as first point of contact for employee concerns and mediating conflicts.

Coach staff as needed to ensure general company compliance and individual improvement.

Detail work orders for second shift (12pm-8pm) staff each day.

Arrange for additional temporary staff through staffing agencies during peak periods and call offs.

Maintain professionalism and boundaries around business and personal life.

Department Management

Meet regularly with department heads to discuss goals, address challenges, and facilitate seamless communication across departments.

Operations – attend Operations Team Meetings to ensure full understanding of day’s agenda, supervise crew members until crew’s morning exit, maintain full awareness of attendance, address ongoing issues with individual team members or group, ensure staffing levels are appropriate for the day, and proactively identify and resolve emerging challenges within or impacting the department

Warehouse – meet weekly with the Warehouse Manager to review staffing and departmental challenges.

Sales – meet weekly with the Sales Manager to review staffing and departmental challenges.

Finances – meet monthly with the Finance Manager to review monthly budgets.

Senior Management - meet quarterly with senior management to review goals and share cross-department opportunities for improvement (1:3:1).

Implement process improvements as needed to increase personal and departmental efficiencies.

Building Management

Complete start of day tasks including but not limited to unlocking the building, opening gates, and turning on lights.

Complete end of day tasks including but not limited to locking all doors, gates, and vehicles; turning off lights; and setting alarms.

Regulate thermostats according to company policy.

Receive and inspect vendor deliveries. Address any discrepancies or damaged goods with vendors immediately.

Ensure offices, hallways, showroom, warehouse, and yard remain organized and operationally ready by completing daily walkthroughs and immediately addressing issues with the related party. Promptly respond to maintenance issues or safety concerns. Ensure all equipment is returned to their labeled locations.

Audit and order office and warehouse supplies as needed.

Plow snow from parking lot in winter. Ensure sidewalks are cleared and maintained by Warehouse team.

Asset Management

Schedule maintenance on company vehicles.

Train second shift to check fluids, tires, etc. for weekly maintenance. Ensure this is documented.

Ensure forklift and tent ox maintenance is completed and documented.

Inspect vehicles daily to note new damage or maintenance issues, including box floors.

Schedule small machine maintenance and repair.

Audit and order replacement parts for rental inventory.

METRICS:

1. All employee policy compliance issues addressed same day

2. Tardiness issues addressed with employee same day

3. Address employee absence and enforce the designated consequence according to company policy at the time of the call-off

4. Track employee incentive program daily and report monthly

5. Take ownership of challenges and questions before escalating. Use of 1:3:1 method when asking for assistance.

6. Constant building cleanliness/organization maintained

7. Vendor deliveries logged with discrepancies addressed within 24 hours

8. Documented monthly 1:1 meeting with all staff

9. Answers phone or calls back within 15 minutes between the hours of 6:45a-5:45p and when staff is on the field

10. Conduct 1 employee engagement activity per quarter

11. 1 birthday party celebration per month

Experience Required:

5+ years’ experience in a leadership or coaching role

Must be able to lift 50-70 lbs

5+ years’ basic computing experience (Microsoft Office)

Must have a full range of motion and dexterity

Public speaking experience

Proven conflict resolution skills

Valid and current driver’s license

Experience Preferred:

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Forklift certification

Customer service-oriented with knowledge of basic business management processes

CERP certification

Box Truck Driving Experience

Tent, event, or rental experience

Education Required:

High School Diploma
