We want everyone who works at CVS Health to feel empowered by the role they play in transforming our culture and accelerating our ability to innovate and deliver solutions to make health care more personal, convenient and affordable.Position SummaryThe Principal Engineer of Specialty Pharmacy Systems Platform Database Architecture and Modernization is responsible for leading the transformation of existing pharmacy systems into a modern, cloud-based, suite of independent products, defined by the pharmacy value chain with the aim of improving business agility, enabling innovation, improving availability, resiliency, and scalability, and achieving these objectives without disrupting business-as- usual.The leader will be the driving force behind strategic vision, operational excellence, and risk management. With advanced expertise in the field, he/she will provide leadership through complex data analysis, contributing to CVS Health's growth and success. This dynamic leader will engage with senior business and technology leaders to understand business strategies and data needs and be accountable for defining and leading a modernization strategy that is closely aligned with our business strategy and technology vision. He / She will have the ability to influence will directly impact the organization's goals and maintain its leadership in the healthcare sector This leader will create a multi-year roadmap of modernization phases that align with an aggressive set of business priorities, establish common enterprise level capabilities, detail cost and time estimates, identify benefits and define the overall approach to transform and modernize the Specialty Pharmacy Systems, while partnering with Enterprise Pharmacy Platform Modernization teams across Retail and Mail systems.This leader will work to achieve agreement across the many senior level business and IT stakeholders and then drive execution of the approved strategy, adjusting as business and technical priorities shift.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsibilities: Develop and maintain a Strategic Roadmap of ModernizationDevelop a multi-year strategy for modernizing a mission-critical, high-volume, near-zero downtime application, which undergoes continuous change. Identify, detail and promote opportunities for common enterprise capabilities and define a migration path toward implementing them.Influence business and IT stakeholders to achieve approval of cost, timeline and approach. 20% Lead Execution/Delivery of the Modernization Roadmap: Direct and manage a multi-disciplinary cross-functional team of IT resources in executing the modernization roadmap, collaborating with application owners and managers and many other IT stakeholders. Adjusting as needed when business and technical priorities shift. 50% Develop the Team: Manage staff and coordinate staff activities, including hiring permanent and temporary staff, developing the team and focusing on professional and career development opportunities. 20% Ensure Funding, Track progress, Report status, Adjust: Ensure modernization strategy remains properly funded thru demonstrated value. Collaborate with the Project Management Office, Business and IT stakeholders to track progress against cost, value, timeline and deliverables, adjusting as needed. 10%Required Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with high-volume, mission-critical, near-zero downtime systems Working knowledge of Cloud platforms and the technologies that make them work. (Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Pivotal Cloud Foundry etc)

Experience with strategies for incremental migration away from legacy systems with a mindset for modernizing applications

Ability to build trusted relations with business and technology partners across the organization to ensure the system strategy maximizes and unlocks business value Highly effective collaborator, able to build cross-functional teams and communicate at all levels of the organization with demonstrated excellent communications skills and natural authority; develop strong internal credibility to leverage non-direct staff and in working with other executives Relationship Management, Influencing and Negotiating: Promotes ideas and proposals persuasively; able to work through conflicts to negotiate win/win solutions that benefit the business and technology teams Strong business and financial acumen, which enables teams to create compelling business cases, effectively align and drive outcomes Change agent capable of driving cultural and technical change throughout the organization

15+ years of relevant experience with 8-10 years of people management experience and 8+ years in a Principal Database Architect role with strong project management and delivery experience

3+ years of agile delivery experience

8+ years in a Principal Architect role

8+ years working with Relational Databases (primarily Oracle 19g, PL/SQL)

Experience with automation for testing, continuous integration, code coverage, and build processes.

Strong background in Oracle, PL/SQL and other database systems, extending beyond conventional database roles.

Understanding of the crucial role of automation, demonstrated through handling complex tasks across large-scale environments.

Able to work effectively under pressure, independently, and within a collaborative team-oriented environment using sound judgment in decision making.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with emerging technologies and trends, enabling effective estimation of their impact on decisions and services.

Proven track record of successfully implementing strategies that enhance customer/user satisfaction.

Knowledge of healthcare market trends and ability to adapt strategies for revenue expansion.

Experience in resource optimization and allocation, contributing to efficient project management.

Background in managing projects with substantial scale and complexity.

Understanding of regulatory compliance and security considerations within the healthcare sector.

EducationBachelor’s DegreePay RangeThe typical pay range for this role is:$175,100.00 - $334,800.00This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
