The Idaho Transportation Department is hiring an Engineering Intern for our Planning and Development Services team located in Lewiston, Idaho. Our Engineering staff reviews civil designs, scopes traffic studies, reviews site plans, evaluates traffic mitigation plans, and provides consultation for our in-field inspectors. The successful candidate would play a critical role, working directly with our Staff Engineer to facilitate these job duties and serve our development community and the citizens of Idaho. This opportunity provides interns with practical real-world experience and exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines. This position will work no more than 19.5 hours per week OR no longer than 5 months. Pay: $21-26 an hour/Determined by experience and based on your year in college.Example of Duties:
Assists Staff Engineer in the review of civil designs, drainage calculations,
Assists Staff Engineer in the scoping of traffic studies, identifying road design alternatives, and impacted roadway segments for development study.
Assists Staff Engineer in the review of development site plans and identification of safety and maintenance conflicts.
Assists Staff Engineer in the review and development of traffic mitigation plans.
Assists Permit Inspectors in the review of laboratory tests on a variety of construction materials (asphalt, concrete, aggregate, etc.) to ensure compliance with various requirements, plans, specifications, and contracts.
Communicates verbally and in writing with supervisors and coworkers, County and outside agency representatives, contractors, and consulting firms.
Work with a team and receive mentorship for career development
Minimum Requirement:
Pursuing a Bachelors or Master's degree in Civil Engineering
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to analyze information, make decisions, and meet deadlines
Documentation, planning, and organizational skills
