Nuclear Safety Analyst

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Safety Analyst to work in our Facility Safety Engineering department. Our team works a 9x80 or 4x10 schedule located out of our EROB facility in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off.You will identify and analyze facility/activity radiological and chemical hazards for all hazard category 1, 2, 3, and less than 3 facilities including advanced reactors. Assess risk (frequency and consequences) of potential adverse effects of hazards on facility workers, colocated workers, and the public. Identify applicable requirements, perform analyses, and author safety bases that document assumptions, results, and requirements to prevent or mitigate hazards. Based on sound engineering principles identify controls (design and administrative) necessary to reduce risks to acceptable levels. You will report to the manager of our Facility Safety Engineering department.Responsibilities Include:

Support and implement the Nuclear Safety Program, which includes requirements management, identifying and implementing improvements to current procedures and processes, performing programmatic assessments, and conducting Laboratory-wide training associated with nuclear safety requirements.

Responsible for 10 CFR 830 by performing nuclear facility safety analyses in accordance with DOE regulatory and company quality standards.

Prepare and maintain nuclear facility safety basis documents, including documented safety analysis (DSA) and technical safety requirements (TSRs). Support implementation of the new and revised DSAs and TSRs for nuclear facilities to ensure that TSRs and DSA commitments are adequately implemented in facility procedures.

Provide technical peer reviews for new and revised technical products, principally nuclear facility DSAs and TSRs.

Support project execution activities which include reviews of routine and abnormal operating procedures and operational events or design activities with respect to the facility safety basis.

Review facility modifications and long-range planning to ensure nuclear safety requirements are met.

Execute the unreviewed safety question (USQ) process for proposed facility and procedure changes.

Execute the safety-in-design process for new nuclear facilities or major modifications.

Conduct facility hazard classification, hazard identification, assessment, accident analyses, facility categorization, and safety system classification.

Identify DSA commitments and derives TSRs to ensure hazardous and radioactive material releases are prevented or mitigated.

Minimum Requirements:

Level 1: Bachelor's degree in Physics, Health Physics, Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering or relevant field.

Level 2: Bachelor's degree in Physics, Health Physics, Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering or relevant field and 2 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree and 1 year of experience.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Must obtain and maintain proficiency in the use of analytical tools.

Ideally candidate will have a broad range of analytical methods used in developing safety analyses and risk assessments and knowledge of Department of Energy or of Nuclear Regulatory Commission nuclear safety and unreviewed safety question guides and standards Job Information:

The pay range for this position is Level 1: ($63,528- $130,284) / Level 2: ($75,804 - $155,496). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
