McAlvain Construction Companies is seeking skilled and experienced Civil Heavy Equipment Operators to join our dynamic team. The successful candidates will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various heavy equipment on civil construction sites, including but not limited to excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and compactors. These roles are critical to the successful completion of our projects, ensuring adherence to project specifications, timelines, and safety regulations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Site Preparation: Assist in preparing the job site for construction activities, including clearing debris, removing obstructions, and setting up necessary equipment and materials.
Trenching and Excavation: Dig trenches and excavate for underground utilities, foundations, and other structures, using hand tools and/or power tools as directed.
Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment manually or using wheelbarrows, dollies, or other material handling equipment.
Pipe Laying: Assist in the installation of underground pipes for water, sewer, or drainage systems, including preparing pipe beds, aligning pipes, and connecting sections.
Demolition and Removal: Participate in demolition and removal of existing structures or materials, using hand tools, power tools, and other equipment as directed.
Compaction and Grading: Operate compaction equipment (e.g., plate compactors, rollers) to compact soil or other materials. Assist in grading and leveling surfaces using rakes and shovels.
Erosion Control: Implement erosion control measures, such as installing silt fences, hay bales, and other devices, to protect the environment and prevent soil erosion.
Traffic Control: Set up and maintain traffic control devices, such as cones, barricades, and signs, to ensure the safety of workers and the public.
General Labor: Perform a variety of general labor tasks as needed, including sweeping, cleaning, raking, shoveling, and organizing the job site.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in construction or a related field is a plus, but not required.
Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50-75 pounds) and perform repetitive tasks.
Basic knowledge of construction site safety and procedures.
Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
Valid driver's license is a plus.
