Summary StatementZoo Boise is one of the most popular attractions in Idaho as well as a living science facility that is home to over 300 animals from 100 various species. Zoo Custodian:

Performs maintenance and repairs on a set schedule.

Prepares reserved sites for events.

Ensures reserved sites are free and clear of trash, in proper working order, and in clean usable condition.

Maintains detailed records of related work and areas of vandalism.

Work is performed under general supervision and direction.

Essential FunctionsPerforms custodial maintenance throughout parks. Cleans restroom and shelter facilities. Picks up trash and ensures receptacles are emptied, in working order and free of damage. Performs plumbing maintenance and repairs on sinks and toilets. (45%)Coordinates with supervisor to schedule reservation site preparations and prepares sites for events. Inspects area around reservation site and performs litter pickup within site vicinity. (40%)Ensures detailed records are entered into logs. Records incidents of vandalism, trash can replacement, site cleanup and schedule of work performed. Cleans vandalism in affected areas and notifies vandalism specialists of places that require special attention. (15%)Performs other duties as assigned. Total Percentage = 100%RequirementsRequired Knowledge, Experience, And TrainingHigh school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience performing light maintenance or janitorial services.Knowledge of:; cleaning practices of parks, such as mopping restroom facilities and graffiti removal; hand and power tools such as power washers and drills; and computer usage including related software.Ability to:; perform varied facilities maintenance and cleaning; work in and around public restroom facilities; operate all equipment and tools required safely; utilize related protective gear and safety equipment safely; identify and prioritize additional tasks; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And TrainingSix years of experience performing custodial maintenance in a park and recreation environment.Licensing And Other RequirementsValid state-issued driver's license.Special RequirementsApplicants must be able to pass:City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process RegulationDriving Record CheckWorking ConditionsThe physical effort characteristics and working environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.Working EnvironmentThe work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards and work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. Employees work in icy conditions during winter time; navigate uneven turf and walkways; and work in dog off leash areas. Cleaning in environments that are contaminated with bodily fluids.
