Summary StatementThe Mayor’s Office is looking for a self-motivated, policy-focused intern interested in ensuring that Boiseans have safe, healthy, affordable homes. Interns will conduct broad policy research and quantitative and qualitative research related to housing in Boise, with a likely focus on residents’ experiences of health and safety issues and housing quality. This will require interviewing residents, housing providers, and staff at service-providing nonprofits. Interns will provide relevant policy recommendations in the form of a written report and a presentation for relevant stakeholders at the conclusion of their internship. This position is designated as At-Will. Essential FunctionsRequired Knowledge and Experience:

Strong interest in issues related to housing. Knowledge and experience in a housing-related field is a plus, but not required.

Experience in policy advocacy, analysis, and research within the government or non-profit sector.

Flexibility and strong time management skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and implement multiple projects simultaneously and to manage tight deadlines and unexpected tasks as they arise.

Excellent written and oral communication experience as well as the ability to synthesize complex information from a variety of sources.

Experience working with diverse community partners and a proven track record of successful, mutually respectful relationships within a professional network.

RequirementsInternship Requirements: To be eligible for the City of Boise Internship Program, applicants must be:

Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong academic record or graduated in the last 12 months from an accredited university

Pursuing studies in public policy, social work, public health, or a related field

Be able to work 20 hours per week.

Be able to commit to the entire internship program
