Tour Guide wanted

Maui's Private Guide, a dba of Hawaii's Private Guides LLC, has on opening for full time tour guide. We specialize in Road to Hana tours but we also do Maui Island Tours which are quite variable. We use/you'll drive, a large Ford Transit Tour Van. Our tours are completely private, we never mix strangers. So if it's just a couple, two people, that's it, your tour will be just those two. You get paid $30 an hour regardless of whether it's a small tour or more people. We do private tours so that we can give the customers options throughout the day and customize the tour to their interests and abilities. We are active guides! We get out of the van and swim with the customers, walk down to the black sand beach with them, go into the caves with them, etc. You don't just open the door and point at something and then take a nap in the van while they are off without you. Also, we teach them stuff and tell them stories as we drive. You must know, or be willing to learn, the geology/volcanology of these islands, how they were formed, how old they are, etc., the history of the Hawaiian People, who they are, where they came from, when they came here, what their culture was like in the past and what it's like today and of course, the flora and fauna you may encounter here on the island such as, what type of plant that is, what it was/is used for, what kind of animals are here, where they came from and when. We want to keep the customers engaged with good conversation, information, history and stories. Prior knowledge is preferred/great but we will provide you with study materials also. The days of the week you work will vary depending upon which days get booked. You report to work in Kihei. We pick them up at 8am at their hotel so your day would start as early as 6:50 am, if the pickup is on the west side, or as late as 7:45 am if the pickup is close by us in Kihei. We want to drop them off around 5 pm but it can run a bit later sometimes. Then you come back to Kihei, stopping to fuel up the van on the way, help wash the van for the next day and clock out. Our tours average a 10 to 11 hour days for you so 40 hours a week is only four days of work. Pay days are every other Friday. The standard work week is 40 hours. Some weeks you may go over 40 hours in which case you'll get time-and-a-half for every hour over 40. Our average tip is about $100 to $150 a day. So far I have the record with a $1,000 tip! One of my employees got a $500 tip once but most are between $100 and $350 a day. You tips are all yours. This position will be full-time on the books with Health plans to choose from and 6 Paid Days off per year. Health plans can cover spouse and dependants and can include vision and dental. You must have a clean driving record and a driving abstract from the county will be required. You must be able to pass a background check. Young and healthy and active is preferred as you are required to play with the customers. Ya, life's hard when you make $30 an hour, plus tips, to go swimming in waterfalls!
