POSITION TITLE: Teller

TYPE: Direct Hire, Entry Level

PAY: $17/hr, more if experienced

LOCATION: Honolulu

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the immediate supervision of the Branch Manager/Member Service Representative III provides front office and administrative support to the Operations Department; understands and follows credit union policies and procedures when processing transactions to members, including basic functions as listed below.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

- Process members’ requests for withdrawals, deposits, transfers and other transactions that comply with regulation CC (expedited funds availability).

- Identify and differentiate large cash and check deposits and know his/her authorized thresholds as a teller.

- Converts checks and pays out monies after verification of signatures and members’ account balances.

- Verifies members’ accounts and properly place holds on those accounts for uncollected funds, after consulting with the branch manager or member service representative III.

- Balances currency, coins, checks, and other negotiable instruments in cash drawer at the end of shift and verifies total amounts with data displayed on software core processing system.

- Orders daily supply of cash and coins and audit incoming cash and coins.

- Records member transactions (withdrawals, deposits, transfers) and provides member with computer generated receipts.

- Understands and knows the member service fee schedule. Educates, promotes, and cross sell products and services (i.e. traveler’s checks, savings bonds, money order, and cashier’s checks).

- Processes credit card payments, loan payments, and converting Quick Change coin service receipts.

- Assist members in setting up home banking account and occasionally reset username and passwords at the members’ requests.

- Understand how to properly complete a Currency Transaction Report (CTR) and know when to complete it.

- Understand the cash, control, and safety loss prevention policy.

- Keep abreast in the procedures and regulations pertaining to the operations department.

- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned by the Branch Manager or the Assistant Branch Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED. Associate’s degree in business administration or similar field, preferred.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Demonstrates attention to detail. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Works well in a group problem solving situation. Responds promptly to members’

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: needs as well as maintaining member confidentiality. Observes safety and security

SKILLS/ABILITIES: procedures based on guidelines. Understands Credit Union operations and information needs. No previous cash handling experience required. Six months to one year cash handling related experience in a financial institution, preferred. Ability to communicate effectively before a small group of members or staff or in a one-to-one setting. Excellent organizational skills. Writes clearly and informatively. Basic computer skills especially in use of MS Office business software programs, required.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION TALKING: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.

AVERAGE HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

REPETITIVE MOTION: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES: Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.

WORKING CONDITIONS NONE: No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writing, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Exhibit sound and accurate judgment.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to members, vendors, and employees.
