The Liliʻuokalani Trust is currently looking for an Youth Programs Consultant to join our team!

POSITION SUMMARY

The Consultant, Youth Programs ("Consultant") is responsible for leading a Youth Programs (YP) team in the implementation of culturally-competent and trauma-informed youth programming. The Consultant directs team members to provide youth program services to beneficiaries of the Lili'uokalani Trust (LT). The Consultant promotes the achievement of personal and organizational performance goals through critical thinking and innovation. Additionally, the Consultant offers guidance on Positive Youth Development (PYD) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL), mentorship, facilitative leadership, and individualized action plans.

In support of creating a learning organization culture, the Consultant facilitates a positive work environment by focusing on team-building and reinforcing LT values. The Consultant encourages learning and development and is committed to continuous improvement in the delivery of direct services to LT beneficiaries.

The Consultant is also responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing culturally-competent and trauma-informed programming, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for young people. These programs aim to promote healing, personal growth, leadership skills, and positive life choices, while fostering relationships with participants, families, and the community. Additionally, the Consultant collaborates with fellow Consultants on innovative practices, methods, and strategies to review and implement proven and experimental initiatives, enhancing the curriculum provided to LT beneficiaries. This role includes setting expectations, goals, and success metrics to evaluate the progression and effectiveness of all Youth Programs.

Kīpuka provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to caring adults, peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. Kīpuka are a hub for culture, creativity, healing, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource for kamaliʻi and their ʻohana. These safe spaces are located throughout the pae ʻaina where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving kamaliʻi.

Essential Responsibilities

Youth Development

- Can successfully provide opportunities for youth leadership, voice, and empowerment by facilitating the knowledge, attitudes, skills, and actions needed for youth to influence, motivate, inform, and inspire desired actions and reactions by others.

- Models positive group management practices and actions to ensure program participant safety by developing healthy relationships and appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with kamaliʻi.

- Understands and interrupts overt and internalized adultism. Advocates for the importance of kamaliʻi representing their thoughts, feelings, and ideas through creative outlets. Uses kamaliʻi centered procedures for solving conflicts.

- Continually seeks additional knowledge and new approaches in Youth Programs.

- Functions as a change agent to inspire and mentor team members in the implementation of innovative programs.

- Ability to understand and communicate program vision, seek additional information on program initiatives, and provide clarification when needed on administrative initiatives, (e.g. program frameworks, evaluation, fiscal/business processes, systems and technology, job roles and organization structures).

- Guides team members, actively supporting and developing colleagues in achieving key learning and development goals.

- Translates PYD concepts and methods into social work context to ensure understanding of the nuanced differences and points of required collaboration between Youth Programs and Clinical teams.

- Guides team members in change initiatives and program implementation ensuring they are successfully integrated and sustained.

Community Engagement

- Fosters positive relations between program staff and community members, ensuring professionalism in the representation and communication of LT vision, mission, values, strategic directions, and program services.

- Participates with direct services staff in mobilizing resources in the community and maintains cooperative working relationships with agencies, schools, health clinics, volunteers, etc.

- Provides case management for kamaliʻi, community members or walk-ins, offering immediate support, resources, and action as needed. Documentation of case management services provided is required.

Metrics and Reporting

- Generates and shares comprehensive and detailed reports about mission-related objectives, and deadlines. Communicates progress updates, concerns, implementation issues with management and team members.

- Responsible for reviewing and approving direct reports activities in Concur and NetSuite.

- Assists in the collection of data, evaluation, and gathering of information for agency-wide reporting and research.

- Supports Manager, Kīpuka Services in developing, monitoring, and implementing kīpuka budget.

Other Duties

- Contributes to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team and organization results.

- Contributes to providing a safe environment for teammates and beneficiaries which includes, communicating to Manger any concerns regarding facilities and vehicles.

- Provides transportation for organization related business, such as driving staff, beneficiaries and/or families to assigned destinations.

- Participates in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development.

- Holiday, evening and weekend hours required as needed.

- Ability to travel as needed for Trust business.

Qualifications

- Bachelorʻs degree in education, social work, or related human science and/or social services degree.

- Extensive experience in SEL and PYD leadership/development programming and working with diverse populations.

- Commitment to SEL and PYD principles and strengths-based approach.

- 2 years experience leading a team or similar capacity.

- 5 years of experience managing youth programs in education, social emotional and positive youth development.

- 5 years of experience working with youth preferred.

- Excellent written and interpersonal skills, including the ability to tailor communications to different audiences and actively listen.

- High level of accuracy when handling paperwork and data entry. 

- Capability to meet deadlines and manage schedules effectively. 

- Must have a strong personal fit with our non-hierarchical, no ego, strong moral compass, intellectually honest, meritocratic culture. 

- Ability to guide and support team members.

- Flexibility to handle changing priorities and situations. 

- Providing excellent support to internal and external individuals.

- Ability to navigate disagreements and resolve issues professionally.  

- Valid driver license, clean traffic abstract, and access to a privately owned automobile with valid no-fault insurance.

- TB clearance.

- First Aid and CPR/AED Certification preferred.
