Job Title: Pledge To Our Keiki Program Coordinator at Kanu Hawaiʻi

Location: Honolulu, Hawaiʻi

Position Type: Contract position available beginning June 1, 2024

Company Overview:

Pledge To Our Keiki is a community-driven initiative dedicated to preserving and protecting Hawaiʻi’s natural resources, culture, and heritage for future generations. By engaging residents, visitors, and businesses, we aim to promote sustainable practices and foster a sense of kuleana (responsibility) towards the environment.

Job Overview:

The Program Coordinator will support the Pledge To Our Keiki initiative, ensuring the program's success through strategic planning, community engagement, and effective implementation of sustainable practices. This role requires a passionate, organized, and dynamic individual who can drive the program forward and inspire others to join the cause.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Development and Oversight:

- Develop and implement strategic plans for the Pledge To Our Keiki program.

- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the program, ensuring all activities align with the program's mission and goals.

- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.

2. Community Engagement:

- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and volunteers.

- Organize and lead community outreach events, workshops, and educational programs to promote the Pledge To Our Keiki.

- Collaborate with schools, businesses, and organizations to expand the reach and impact of the program.

3. Communication and Advocacy:

- Develop and execute communication strategies to raise awareness about the Pledge To Our Keiki.

- Act as a spokesperson for the program, representing the initiative at public events, in the media, and with policymakers.

- Create and distribute promotional materials, including brochures, social media content, and press releases.

4. Fundraising and Grant Management:

- Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and sponsorships.

- Manage budgets and financial reports, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial matters.

- Prepare and submit grant proposals and reports to funding agencies.

5. Student Pledge Ambassador Initiative:

- Develop and oversee the second year of the Student Pledge Ambassador Initiative, recruiting students to serve as ambassadors for the program. There are over 20 returning or new ambassadors from all four counties

- Provide training and support to student ambassadors, empowering them to promote the Pledge To Our Keiki within their schools and communities.

- Coordinate ambassador activities, including presentations, events, and social media campaigns.

Coordinate ambassadors in service project opportunities including during the month of April which is Volunteer Month in Hawaiʻi

- Foster a sense of leadership, responsibility, and environmental stewardship among student ambassadors.

- Evaluate the success of the initiative, gathering feedback from participants and making improvements as needed.

6. Teacher and School Engagement.

- Work with teachers and school on supporting the Pledge

- Share and encourage teachers and schools to adopt the Pledge Lesson Plans which were approved by the HIDOE for use in all public and charter schools

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Community Development, Education, or a related field or similar level of work experience

- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in program coordination, community outreach, or a related role.

- Strong understanding of Hawaiian culture, values, and environmental issues.

- Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.

- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.

- Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and budget management.

- Proficient in using digital communication tools and social media platforms.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

- Passionate about environmental conservation and community development.
