Executive Director, Kauai Community Players

Position Summary:

Kaua‘i Community Players, a dynamic and growing non-profit community theatre, is seeking a passionate and organized Executive Director to lead operations and serve as the face of the theatre. This part-time role is ideal for someone who is community-minded, entrepreneurial, and eager to grow with the organization. As responsibilities expand, this position may increase in hours or become full-time, with the potential to hire support roles, such as a Volunteer Coordinator.

Core Responsibilities:

Leadership & Oversight

Maintain and manage a comprehensive Master Schedule for productions, rehearsals, events, volunteer shifts, and facility use.

Lead day-to-day operations and serve as the central point of coordination for the theatre’s activities.

Be a visible, positive presence at performances, events, and in the community as the face of Kaua‘i Community Players.

Volunteer & Community Engagement

Recruit, coordinate, train, and manage all volunteers.

In coordination with the Volunteer Coordinator, cultivate relationships with all the schools for ticket sales and usher volunteers.

As the workload grows, assist in defining and hiring a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator.

Approve and give input for the master schedule developed by the Volunteer Coordinator prior to bringing it to the board for a vote.

Marketing & Promotion

Create, coordinate, and execute a master marketing plan and schedule with a board-approved budget.

Develop and manage advertising for all shows via print, social media, newsletters, local media, and community outreach.

Ensure banner and poster placement throughout the island of Kaua‘i for each production.

Track and report on audience engagement and ticket sales.

Update the website and use it as a marketing tool.

Run email marketing and text campaigns for each production.

Financial Stewardship

Work closely with the Board to develop and maintain budgets for productions and operations.

Ensure that spending aligns with approved budgets and look for opportunities to maximize profits.

Earn $1 per seat sold as an incentive to encourage audience growth and smart programming.

Board Communication & Strategic Planning

Serve as a liaison to the Board of Directors, attending meetings and providing updates on progress, budget, and initiatives.

Collaborate with the Board on long-term goals, planning, and fundraising efforts.

Additional Responsibilities:

Cultivate relationships with Maui Chips, Kōloa Rum, Kaua‘i Beer, Roberts Tourism, and others for concessions and ticket sales.

In conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator, manage VBO system changes, updates, and processes.

Maximize the usage of the VBO system—including ticket scanning at the door and exploring additional features.

Form relationships with hula hālau to offer lei and other flowers for sale at concessions.

Cultivate business partnerships on Kaua‘i for program advertising and sponsorship of productions.

Create a talent recruitment plan by sharing information with other theatre companies and performers to learn how they attract talent and grow audiences.

Qualifications:

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Experience in marketing, administration, or non-profit leadership preferred.

Passion for theatre and community engagement.

Confident communicator with a professional and approachable demeanor.

Familiarity with budgeting and/or ticketing systems is a plus.

Flexible and adaptable as Kaua‘i Community Players grows.

A creative problem-solver and enthusiastic team leader.

Willing to work some evenings and weekends during production seasons.

Compensation & Incentives:

Salary of $1500 per month

$1 incentive for each seat sold, paid out post-production.

Opportunities for additional compensation and role expansion as the organization grows.
