Position Summary
The Batcher is responsible for the safe, efficient, and correct operation of the concrete batch plant to meet daily production schedules and quality standards. This role ensures proper batching of materials per approved mix designs, coordinates daily driver schedules, manages cement and material procurement, and conducts pre- and post-operating maintenance checks. The Batcher also provides support to the Quality Control (QC) department and assists in maintaining compliance with company policies, industry best practices, and applicable ASTM and DOT standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical and Operational Responsibilities
- Operate the computerized batch plant control system (COMMANDBatch) to produce concrete per approved mix designs and production schedules.
- Monitor batching operations to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
- Monitor batch plant operating parameters and ensure they are within approved operating ranges.
- Direct on-shift personnel including concrete truck drivers, QC technicians, equipment operators, yard laborers and haul truck drivers.
- Maintain accurate batching logs and production records.
Secondary duties
- Develop and manage daily driver schedules to optimize delivery efficiency.
- Coordinate cement and other material procurement to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Perform daily pre-startup and end-of-day shutdown checks, documenting and reporting any maintenance needs.
- Assist QC personnel with daily material testing, sample collection, and data entry.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe plant work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma, or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in concrete batch plant operation, or related construction materials activity.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and communications skills
- Curiosity and desire to learn. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites.
Preferred
- Proficiency with computerized batching systems (COMMANDBatch preferred).
- Knowledge of ASTM, DOT and industry standards for concrete production.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with plant maintenance.
Working Conditions
Split between control room, laboratory, and batch plant environments.
Requires ability to lift 50+ pounds and to work in outdoor and industrial environments with exposure to heat, dust, noise and weather. Required to wear appropriate PPE.
Schedule will regularly include early morning or weekend hours depending on production needs. Infrequently, it may include overnight shifts.
