JOB OVERVIEW:

The Eye Center of Hawaiʻi is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented part-time Ophthalmic Technician to join our ʻohana of eye healthcare professionals. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing exceptional patient care in an ophthalmology setting. You will assist ophthalmologists, retinal surgeons, optometrists and opticians with various clinical and medical reception tasks, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow while delivering high-quality service to our patients with genuine aloha and mahalo. The ideal candidate will already possess strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, along with excellent interpersonal skills OR possess a great desire to learn.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform preliminary eye exams and gather patient medical histories.

Conduct diagnostic tests such as visual acuity tests, tonometry, and retinal imaging.

Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and minor procedural treatment.

Educate patients on proper eye care and post-operative instructions.

Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with medical protocols.

Manage front desk operations including scheduling appointments and handling in-person and phone inquiries.

Ensure accuracy of all documentation, digital or document.

Stay updated on advancements in ophthalmology practices and technologies.

EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Tech or in a related healthcare role is preferred but not necessary. Will train the right person.

Demonstrated professionalism with legible handwriting, self-initiative, observation, and organization skills are advantageous.

Familiarity with and understanding of kūpuna (geriatric) patients is a plus.

Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, an expeditious, ethical work habit.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals.

NO WALK-INʻs. Initial Interviews will be conducted via Zoom.

Job Type: In-person

Schedule: 4- to 8-hr shifts, weekends as needed. No nights.
