Auctioneer/Sales Technician (Fish Auction)

Schedule: Monday-Saturday 4:30am - Varies

Payrate: $18/hr.

Management Level: Entry level, ability to move into management.

Job Description:

The management of the auction floor is essential for the success of product movement once it has entered the facility. This systematic process must be maintained constantly, or it will create a bottleneck and ultimately cease the auction itself. The Floor Manager must ensure that there is a streamlined flow to the auction and assist in multiple facets of the operation, when and if necessary.

Pre-Auction Duties:

- Oversight of the auction floor lineup leading to the start of the auction.

- Coordinating with the Receiving section on product flow onto the floor.

- Assisting with tail cut and core samples, including sensory inspection.

Auction Duties:

- Auctioneer

- The focal point of the operation who sells individual whole fish to various vendors.

- Maintains the market value of all products from the beginning to end of the auction.

- Ensures that all auction policies and protocols are consistently upheld for all customers.

- Continuation of the same pre-auction duties, but also including:

- Assistance to the Sales Section in transactions and data coordination with the office.

Post-Auction Duties:

- Floor reconciliation

- Assisting the Distribution Section in the final loadouts of purchased fish to vendors.

Administrative Duties (eventual):

- Automation equipment and software maintenance

- Point of contact with Westmark Industries, software developer and label company.

- Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) documentation.

- Assistance with any HACCP documentation.

Working Conditions:

Auction operates in an extreme cold storage environment, notably in temperatures sub 50-degrees. An average of 5 hours a day under these conditions should be expected.

Office space will be made available for clerical work at the conclusion of auction duties.

Physical Requirements:

- Mobility is a large factor in keeping up with the pace of the auction, requiring constant motion and standing for hours at a time.

- Minor lifting of fish product should be expected.

- Constant bending when physically dealing with the fish, whether setting up the line or selling.
