Job Summary:Under indirect supervision, performs variety of admitting and clerical duties; implements, maintains and assumes responsibility of activities of Hospital Admissions including patient registration and insurance verification; trains, orients, and monitors assigned subordinate personnel in all duties and functions; maintains, audits, and corrects information on patient computer accounts as directed by manager; researches and resolves problems; prepares, organizes, and conducts presentations; coordinates, plans, and monitors work; prepares and maintains work schedules; prepares and codes timecards for managers approval; reviews, analyzes, and validates reports and other information using decision-making skills; collaborates with Financial Counseling Assistant and other team on issues requiring shared accountability and/or decision making.Essential Responsibilities:

Plans, coordinates, delegates and schedules work of assigned subordinates.

Trains and orients assigned subordinates on Admitting and Hospital Patient Management system (HPMS AS-400) processes and procedures; collaborates with Financial Counseling Assistant and manager when training staff on financial advisement; collaborates and reviews with manager, trainees job performance in relation to meeting department standards.

Prepares and maintains work schedules of assigned subordinates; assists supervisor in setting departmental standards for subordinates; monitors workload accordingly to ensure department functions are carried out.

Prepares and codes timecards for each pay period for managers approval.

Maintains, audits, and corrects information of patient computer accounts as directed by manager.

Researches and resolves problems; recommends changes in methods and/or procedures as appropriate; maintains procedures.

Prepares, organizes, and conducts presentations.

Refers difficult account, customer or staff problems to manager; refers patients for financial counseling assistance as appropriate; conveys as much information as possible.

Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served.

Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.

Performs other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

Two (2) years patient access experience in admitting and/or patient registration.

Education

Post high school coursework in business or related field; or equivalent combination of education (lesser) & experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.

License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:

Working knowledge of medical terminology.

Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, quality management, results orientation, systems thinking, teamwork, written communication, and leadership.

Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and mainframe (patient registration) PC applications.

Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.

Reading, writing, speaking and understanding English.

Training/giving and receiving instructions.

Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration and alertness.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of financial screening process.
