Part-Time Elementary Librarian

Island School seeks a part-time elementary librarian with a commitment to independent school education in a college preparatory environment. The part-time position for the 24-25 school year includes fostering a love of reading, teaching age-appropriate literacy lessons in conjunction with grade-level teachers, and managing the elementary library resources. Pay range based on the 50% full-time equivalency for a faculty member role for 24-25 depending on years of experience and education: $25,750-$36,250, and qualifies for full medical and dental benefits.

Island School is a WASC/HAIS accredited PK-12 independent day school with a total enrollment of just over 500 students. The school is located on the rural island of Kaua`i, the northwestern most inhabited island in the Hawaiian archipelago, which, due to its stunning natural beauty, is known as the "Garden Island." The successful candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, and a desire to be part of an independent school community. Candidates should have experience differentiating instruction to work effectively with a range of learners, demonstrate a passion for reading and literary skills, possess strong organization skills for collection management, express a readiness to further establish the ES library, and demonstrate effective classroom management strategies. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in teaching elementary-age students. Additional responsibilities include appropriate participation in the life of the school given part-time status (such as attending staff meetings). 2+ years of relevant experience in an independent school preferred.

Minimum Qualifications include:

B.S. / B.A. degree in library science, education, or relevant degree

Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in a group

Ability to communicate and work effectively with parents, students, faculty, and staff

Ability to motivate and manage students

Strong work ethic, adaptability, generous spirit, sense of humor, and confidence working with students

Commitment to and alignment with the School's mission and vision
