High School Math or Science Teacher

Candidates should have:

- a bachelor’s degree in math, science, engineering, or education;

- a minimum of three years of experience teaching a wide range of middle and/or upper school mathematics, science, or STEM courses.

A master’s degree in Math, Science, or STEM field, Education, or Curriculum and Instruction and a Hawaii State teacher’s license is preferred but not mandatory. Preference will be given to candidates who hold dual certification or experience in math and science.

Duties include but are not limited to:

- providing online instruction to students in a variety of math courses that may include Algebra 1 or 2, Geometry, and/or higher level math courses or Biology, STEM, or Chemistry;

- preparing courses and designing project-based lessons;

- serving as a high school advisor;

- holding tutoring sessions with individual students and small groups;

- organizing subject-specific field trips and projects;

- researching and developing best practices in blended learning math curricula for high school students;

- working collaboratively with the administration and the Kona team; and

- face-to-face community building, instructional events, field studies, and professional development as needed or directed.

Flexibility, creativity, and innovation stand at the heart of HTA’s program so the ideal candidate will be versatile in terms of skill sets, and pedagogical approach to teaching and learning and will preferably have experience in creating and delivering face-to-face and virtual courses.

This position requires some inter-island travel, approximately two to three times per year, for face-to-face instruction, small group tutoring, community building, and/or professional development. This is an HSTA 10-month position.
