USCG Boat Captain - Aquatic Life Divers

Aquatic Life Divers in Kailua Kona, HI is seeking a USCG 50 ton Captain (with at least 1 year of experience as a captain on passenger vessels) to operate two of our 600hp 31' Armstrong aluminum hull catamarans.

We mostly operate within a 10nm stretch of coastline out of Honokohau Harbor and offer daily dive operations - 2 tank morning charters, nightly 1-2tank dive/snorkel manta charters, and black water charters. Frequent private, production/film, and conservation science charters occur as well.

Position is responsible for performing, to various degrees, vessel operations, supervising and managing vessel crew, and overseeing safety and performing monthly drills/inspections, quality control, training, fueling, basic vessel troubleshooting. Daily charter duties include(but are not limited to), vessel charter set up/break down, engine checks, maintaining accurate vessel logs, restocking provisions, reporting inventory, assisting with checking in guests/help crew with loading and unloading tanks and dive gear, overseeing time management, washing down vessel. Must possess common sense, have ability to adapt in a quickly-changing environment, carry out duties consistent with an understanding that with all marine duties time is of the essence, provide 5-star customer service when interacting with passengers and/or potential passengers both on and off the vessels while striving to continue to enhance the passenger experience, ability to use independent judgment and discretion, and develop and execute effective, efficient, safe and compliant solutions to issues within areas of responsibility.

Minimum requirements:

-Valid Merchant Mariners Credential issued by the USCG, Master of 50 ton

-Medical Certificate

-Valid Adult/Child/Infant First Aid CPR AED Certification

-Valid FCC Marine Radio License

-Valid Driver’s License

-Pre-employment drug test compliance or equivalent; and Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing.

-1yr experience serving as captain on passenger vessels

-Comfortable navigating at night

Preferred experience:

-Certified diver

-Customer service background

-Knowledge of Hawaiian marine life

-Knowledge of basic vessel maintenance
