EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Under general supervision, performs various forest management activities.Timber Sales duties may include:

Conduct timber cruising, stand mapping, timber harvest inspections, timber sale area and SMZ line marking and timber marking.

Conduct security load card reconciliation related to timber sales.

Locate and mark State Property Boundaries.

State Lands Management duties may include:

Help coordinate forest management of lands owned by the state.

Help with supervision of reforestation efforts and conduct seedling survival surveys.

Develop prescribed burning plans. Perform prescribed burning, including fire lane construction, and wildfire suppression.

Operate various types of heavy equipment such as crawler tractors, farm-type tractors and trucks over 26,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight.

Other General duties may include:

Perform daily checks of equipment and routine maintenance and occasional repair.

Construct and maintains facilities, inspects roads and grounds and performs maintenance as needed, and installs repairs and maintains fences, signs, and gates.

Conduct stump cruises related to timber transaction complaints.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related field OR Associate's degree in forestry or closely related field AND working knowledge of basic forest management practices. Knowledgeable of Best Management Practices, especially pertaining to road constructions, stream crossings, and all phases of timber harvesting. Candidate must hold a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain a CDL within 3 months of appointment.Preference for candidates with experience intimber sales, logger supervision, knowledge of timber estimation, and accounting procedures for common methods of timber sales) and proficiency in Word, Excel, standard forester field tools and use of GPS and ArcGIS (for basic map creation).Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related field from a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited college or university OR Associate's degree in forestry or closely related field from a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited college or university AND working knowledge of basic forest management practices AND a valid driver's license AND the ability to obtain CDL license.
