SHELTERING ARMS EARLY EDUCATION AND FAMILY CENTERSJOB DESCRIPTIONOFFICIAL TITLE: Center DirectorSUPERVISOR: Sr. Director, Site LeadershipSALARY RANGE: In accordance with Sheltering Arms Salary SchedulesTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time, ExemptSUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Center Director is responsible for the direction and supervision of all center staff in accordance with established policies, guidelines, and curriculum and the operation of a quality child development and family support program.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (Asterisk for essential job duties.)Supervise staff and oversee program implementation.Orient new staff, volunteers and workers assigned by outside organizations to the center using agency guidelines so they understand the agency, its policies, rules, procedures, etc.Schedule all staff hours, always maintaining adequate coverage of Center.Work in classroom when staff shortage dictates.Hold monthly staff meetings.Meet weekly with management team.Communicate new policies and information during staff meetings encouraging participation and input.Attend in-service training and outside conferences and courses that pertain to program, teaching techniques, supervision, etc.Provide training and technical assistance to outside childcare providers.Share new information from training with center staff and follow up on its use in the classroom.Provide time for staff to share knowledge gained from workshops, courses, and conferences.Establish unit outline for the year with assistance of the Director of Professional Development and requests special assistance as needed.Ensure that classroom observations are completed monthly and gives verbal and written feedback on performance.Ensure that lesson plans are checked weekly making comments and suggestions as needed.Approve all planned field trips and special theme related activities.Ensure that daily classroom schedules are current, posted and followed.Ensure that communicable diseases are reported to the Health Department.Ensure that all suspected child abuse and neglect incidents are reported to DFACS, Protective Services and conduct follow-up investigation on all reported child abuse and neglect.Confer with Executive Director in administering emergency funds to families in need.Ensure optimal enrollment by working with the Family Support Coordinator(s) and complete children’s records and family files.Review all new children’s records and family files and use monthly checklist to maintain accuracy.Plan opportunities for teachers to discuss with parents their child’s assessment (twice annually).Monitor and assist Family Support Coordinator with tuition and accounting to assure accuracy.Assist in developing and executing a Parent Involvement Program including a Parent Organization.Develop skills and talents of staff by identifying areas needing improvement, creating and individual staff development plan reinforcing participation in appropriate workshops, and encouraging mutual sharing of ideas.Review personnel policies with staff at least once each year.Take disciplinary action as specified by personnel policies and keep accurate records of conferences.Communicate appreciation of change and/or improvement in staff performance verbally and in writing.Send copies of all personnel consultations positive or punitive to the Administrative office on a regular basis.Determine annual goals and objectives for the Center.Conduct a ride-a-long bus/van observation on a quarterly basis.Complete a three-month progress report on all new and promoted employees and set objectives for improvement.Formally evaluate or review each employee’s performance every six months setting specific objectives for performance improvement.Communicate all pertinent information to Administrative staff in a timely manner (i.e. parent complaints, staff complaints, community concerns, licensing visits, child abuse/neglect reports, problems regarding children’s accidents or concerns requiring possible referral, problems with physical plant that effect safety or security, etc.Record Keeping:Maintain staff personnel file according to the Director’s manual.Maintain and documents use of petty cash account.Operate within assigned budget, making adjustments and expenditures to compensate for revenue and enrollment.Ensure that time and attendance records for all employees are maintained.Ensure that food records including daily number of meals served, production records, costs of food purchased are maintained.Maintain current inventory of equipment, tracking Pre-K separately.Ensure that other records and reports as requested by Administrative staff are maintained and submitted on a timely basis.Report all staff injuries to the administrative office and fills out all necessary forms for worker’s compensation purposes.Ensure that all serious accidents involving children are reported to licensing and administrative office in a timely manner.Support the Center’s Code of Ethical Conduct in regard to children, families, and staff confidentiality.Public Relations:Initiate and maintain good Center relations with parents and the community.Recruit parents and community representatives for the policy council.Attend community meetings, open houses, and community functions as a representative of the agency.Assist the management team in maintaining advisory committee membership (50% community and 50% parent).Make necessary arrangements for advisory committee meetings.Conduct Center tours and agency presentations.Assist the Management Team in planning parent meetings, special projects, or any community-related functions in the Center.Plan at least one community presentation to share the Sheltering Arms story annually.Assist parents and advisory committee with Center fund raising.Work closely with Child and Family Specialist and Family Support Director to assure high quality visibility and good relations in the community.Property Maintenance:Complete preventative maintenance checklist monthly.Ensure all safety checklists (playground, classroom, and first aid) are completed on a monthly basis.Ensure that Center is clean at all times and maintain general appearance of grounds.Ensure agency vehicle is maintained and keep appropriate documentation.Food Preparation:Ensure that nutritious meals and snacks are planned and menus posted on Friday before the week begins.Ensure that grocery, janitorial and kitchen supplies are available as needed.Ensure that daily or weekly duties of the food service manager are clear, specific, and completed on schedule.Ensure that food records including daily number of meals served, production records, and cost of food purchased are accurate and reported appropriately.Ensure the completion of kitchen observation on monthly basis.Commitment to Professionalism:Attend staff and parent leadership meetings.Promote the agency’s philosophy and educational objectives.Keep current on developments in the field of ECE, nutrition, and human services.Support the Center’s code of ethical conduct in regards to children, families, and staff confidentiality.Be a good role model for staff, parents and children in regards to neatness, good grooming and own personal appearance.Display positive outlook and pleasant manner.Demonstrate knowledge of state licensing regulations.Demonstrate knowledge of all governing standards:NAEYCEHS/PHS Performance StandardsITERS/ECERSTeamwork:Display ability to work as a member of the agency’s management and support team.Establish and maintain effective relationships with management and center staff.Act as a coach and mentor for staff.Ensure all members of the management team are cross-trained.Be willing to delegate tasks and give support when needed.General Responsibilities:Notifies Senior Site Leadership Director in advance when necessary to be absent.Additional Responsibilities:Performs other related functions as assigned by Senior Site Leadership Director.KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds without assistance and 50 lbs. with assistance.Must be able to visually observe and hear children from all areas of the classroom and playground from a distance of at least 70 feet.High degree of oral and written communication skills.Must be able to sit on floor and interact with children.Must be familiar with developmentally appropriate practicesEDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Early Childhood Education or closely related field and three years administrative or supervisory experience.Masters in Early Childhood Education or closely related field and 1 year administrative or supervisory experience.CERTIFICATE AND
