Dining Service Supervisor Posting Number S01302JP Department Dining Service - Thorne Hall Job Summary Bowdoin College is located in Brunswick Maine with a student population of almost 2000. We make everything from scratch and are consistently rated in the top 10 for college dining! We have our own butcher shop, bakeshop, and organic garden that all supply food to our 2 dining halls and 3 retail locations. This position will support Thorne Hall.The Service Supervisor provides support to Dining Managers on front-of-the house dining operations and catering functions. These responsibilities include:
Supervisory coverage during mealtimes as directed by Dining Managers providing training to student employees and casual staff.
Maintaining dining guest spaces are clean, stocked, and orderly prior to service, preparing daily meal reports
Monitoring daily room reservations, special diet areas and specialty refrigerators, and assisting with set-up and service of catering events.
Coordinate with Staffing Coordinator and Culinary Manager to ensure adequate coverage in dining halls. Reach out to alternate students, casuals, and regular employees, as needed for shift coverage.
In absence of or in collaboration with the Catering Supervisor, work with Stewards to
assist with proper set up and service of catering events, including client contact, oversight,and direction of wait staff.
Distribute unit catering function sheets to appropriate areas. Ensure function changes are communicated and noted on appropriate function sheets. Ensure collection of completed catering function information for billing purposes.
Prepare daily meal reports and include meal counts, snapshot of menu, staffing, equipment,
and meal highlights to distribute to Dining management team. Collect Unit Interdepartmental transfer sheets, accurately extend costs, and submit weekly to Dining Office for review and input for weekly operating statements.
Monitor dining facilities and equipment. Report any maintenance issues by submitting a work order.
Provide oversite of weekly safety sanitation. Create list of action items to be completed. Provide timely inspections and weekly sign offs. Conduct monthly Automated External Defibrillator ( AED ) and Hood inspections. E-mail reports to Safety Officer and Supervisors.
Pay, Benefits, and Perks:
The starting pay range for this position will be $25.80/hour. Compensation based on your skills and experience.
New employees in Dining will receive a $500 sign-on bonus (½ paid at first check and ½ paid after 90 days of eligibility requirements are met).

Education/Skills Requirements
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work cooperatively with others
Ability to work independently within a team atmosphere
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
Ability to learn new software and systems
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform basic mathematical computations
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
Computer skills necessary to work with basic spreadsheets and word processing.
Preferred:
Associate degree or some college course work in Management or Culinary Arts
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required:
2 -3 years of supervisory experience
Minimum of 1 year of related food service or retail sales experience
A valid driver’s license and the ability to comply with the College’s current Motor Vehicle Policy.
The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal history background and motor vehicle record check, and a pre-employment physical.
Preferred:
4-7 years of related work experience
ServSafe certification (Dining employees will be provided training within their first six months to become certified).
Maine Liquor Handler’s certification (Must obtain within 6 months of employment).
Standard Work Days and Hours
The standard work week for this position is:
Monday – Thursday: 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday: Off, Sunday: 12:30 pm – 8:30 pm
The role will be required to work occasional overtime, holidays, and during weather emergencies, in addition to working major college events and weekends (i.e., Parent’s Weekend, Commencement, and Reunions).
