Cashier/Kitchen Prep Lead Posting Number S01326JP Department Dining Service - Smith Union Job Summary Bowdoin College is located in Brunswick Maine with a student population of almost 2000. We make everything from scratch and consistently rated in the top 10 for college dining! We have our own butcher shop, bakeshop and organic garden that all supply food to our 2 dining halls and 3 retail locations. This position supports our dining department.The Smith Union Operations Lead will support to the dining operations of Smith Union, with primary emphasis on Jack Magee’s Grill. These responsibilities include taking food orders from customers, operating computerized registers and checking systems, and expediting orders. The Smith Union Operations Lead will also assist in set-up and upkeep of the front and the back of the house operations.Pay, Benefits, and Perks:

The starting pay range for this position will be $20.50/hour. Compensation based on your skills and experience (This role is eligible for overtime).

New employees in Dining will receive a $500 sign-on bonus (½ paid at first check and ½ paid after 90 days of eligibility requirements are met).

Education/Skills Requirements

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge of cash registers and personal computers.

Ability to follow both verbal and written directions and perform simple math.

Possess good decision making and organizational skills and be an effective communicator

Demonstrated reliability and ability to work quickly and efficiently.

Must be able to work independently within a team atmosphere.

Must demonstrate good personal hygiene practices

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Required:

Minimum of 1 year of related food service or retail sales experience

Experience with computer word processing and spreadsheet applications

This position will require a criminal background check and pre-employment physical

Preferred:

Purchasing, inventory management, and receiving experience

ServSafe Certification (Dining employees will be provided training within their first six months to become certified).

Standard Work Days and Hours

This role is scheduled to work Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

The role will be required to work occasional overtime, holidays, and during weather emergencies, in addition to working major college events and weekends (i.e., Parent’s Weekend, Commencement, and Reunions).

This position is a full-time, academic year round position working 40 hours/week for 38 weeks (0.73 FTE )

An academic-year round employee is not scheduled to work during winter, spring, and summer breaks.
