This position is responsible for relationship cultivation and management between the Department of Education, Tribal Nations, and Maine schools to ensure the development, dissemination, and delivery of Wabanaki Studies materials that have been created in community with these and other invested parties. In addition, the Wabanaki Studies Specialist is responsible for promotion and outreach regarding Wabanaki Studies (e.g., social media, news releases, website updates, conference presentations, trainings, virtual office hours) and the position requires frequent communication with educators, administrators, Tribal Citizens, and members of other State of Maine Agencies. Work is performed in collaboration with other members of the Maine DOE and is executed under limited supervision. Extensive use of technology, statewide/national travel, and field assignments are required for this position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Lived and/or formal experience working with Wabanaki Tribal Nations

Interdisciplinary curriculum development

Leading equity and inclusion work

Leading professional development for in-service educators

Quantitative and qualitative program evaluation development and execution

Data driven program evolution

Stakeholder engagement and meaningful involvement

Knowledge of current learning research, exemplary educational practices, and school functional operations.

Knowledge of public involvement issues in education policy decisions and educational operations.

Knowledge of computer software and hardware systems including networking.

Knowledge of Total Quality Management concepts, practices, tools, and productivity measures.

Knowledge of current and emerging state and federal legislation, rules, and regulations impacting education.

Knowledge of documentation strategies.

Knowledge of alternative assessment, developmental education, and experimental learning.

Knowledge of performance-based and standards-based educational systems.

Knowledge of systemic change principles.

Knowledge of Learning Results, the process of developing and implementing these standards, and the associated assessment systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced education, training, and/or experience in Education, Human Resource Development, Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field with demonstrated experience in staffing, training, multimedia promotions, and/or business planning.
