Job description
We are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Technician to join our team specializing in commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems primarily in commercial and industrial settings, with a focus on large-scale commercial equipment and complex building systems. This role requires expertise in commercial HVAC applications and the ability to work with sophisticated commercial-grade equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Install commercial HVAC systems in office buildings, retail spaces, warehouses, and industrial facilities according to industry standards and local codes
Perform routine maintenance and warranty work on commercial HVAC equipment including rooftop units, chillers, boilers, and large-scale air handling systems
Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in commercial HVAC systems, then perform appropriate repairs on complex commercial equipment
Service and maintain commercial refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, freezers, and process cooling equipment
Recharge refrigerant levels, perform leak detection, and ensure proper refrigerant cycle operation in commercial air conditioning and refrigeration systems
Perform energy-efficiency upgrades on commercial systems, including installing building automation systems, smart controls, and optimizing commercial equipment performance
Work with building management systems (BMS) and commercial control systems
Explain maintenance procedures to facility managers and provide recommendations for commercial system upgrades or replacements
Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, and service calls for commercial accounts
Mentor and train less-experienced technicians on commercial HVAC applications
Coordinate with other trades and contractors on commercial construction and renovation projects
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
NATE certification in six specialties, with preference for commercial HVAC certifications
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification (Type II or Universal preferred for commercial applications)
Thorough knowledge of commercial HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, rooftop units, and large air handling systems
Proficient in reading commercial blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications
Experience with commercial building automation systems and controls
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's degree or vocational training in HVAC, refrigeration, or related field
3+ years of experience specifically with commercial HVAC systems
Certifications in commercial equipment brands (Carrier, Trane, York, etc.)
Experience with commercial refrigeration systems
Knowledge of building codes and commercial construction standards
Proficiency with commercial HVAC diagnostic tools and equipment
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent communication and customer service skills for interaction with facility managers and building owners
Strong problem-solving abilities for complex commercial system issues
Ability to work independently and manage multiple commercial accounts
Physical capability to lift heavy commercial equipment, work in mechanical rooms, and access rooftop equipment
Comfort working at heights and in various commercial building environments
Flexibility to work in extreme temperatures and confined spaces
Work Environment:
The Commercial HVAC Technician will primarily work in commercial buildings, office complexes, retail facilities, warehouses, and industrial sites. The role involves working with large commercial equipment, often on rooftops, in mechanical rooms, and other commercial building spaces. Some residential work may be included, but the focus is on commercial applications. Overtime and on-call availability required to service commercial clients.
