Direct Care Professional

This position provides an opportunity to work at a fun and rewarding day center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We’re looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable, encouraging, physically active team player to join our staff.

As a Direct Care Professional, you’ll be focused on creating a safe, positive and encouraging atmosphere for our Participants while also teaching them how to complete certain tasks on their own to promote a more independent and satisfying lifestyle.

At the DeRiche Agency, we want to be more than just a day center for our Participants. It is our mission that each individual can be the most independent with the least amount of restrictions. That is why we strive to create a family feeling, motivating environment and provide plenty of fun community integration and learning opportunities. Above all, we want our Participants to feel like everyday they come to the center that it’s going to be a great day!

So if you’re the type of person who enjoys doing activities such as laser tag, bowling and volunteering at local charities who also feels fulfilled teaching others valuable skills such as cooking, typing and communication, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities for the Direct Support Professional include:

● Having fun and being an enthusiastic, willing partaker in all center and community activities.

● Encouraging independence by teaching essential life skills such as: typing, cooking, cleaning, self-care, money management, community-based instruction, and stress management.

● Transporting Participants via a commercially insured vehicle for off-site activities.

● Keeping accurate documentation by filling out detailed daily reports.

● Supervising Participants taking medications and money transactions.

● Planning and coordinating group activities.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

● Attention to detail, especially when adhering to specific protocols and rules while carefully following instructions to care for the needs of each individual.

● Interpersonal skills when working with individuals, including having compassion and being sensitive to their emotional needs.

● Solid verbal and written communication skills and basic typing/computer skills.

● Physical stamina when engaging in group activities such as going to the gym, hiking, bike riding, etc.

Requirements:

● Experience working with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD)

● High school diploma or equivalent

● Must be 21 or older to apply

● Be authorized to work in the United States

● Valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record

● Must have current CPR and First Aid certification, TB test and physical to apply

● Full COVID-19 vaccination

● Background checks required prior to employment

This full-time position starts at $18.00/hour during the initial training period and increases to $19.00/hour once all skills taught during training have been demonstrated. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Position also includes paid holidays, PTO and leave benefits.
