Job Summary:Under the supervision of the Residency Program Director (RPD) or assigned preceptors, assists with the development, implementation and maintenance of educational programs to influence prescribing practices of practitioners to achieve drug therapy of optimal effectiveness and cost efficiency, provides direct patient care related to drug therapy, provides drug information, and performs a research project of publishable quality.Essential Responsibilities:

Monitors prescribing practices in medical offices to identify, develop, implement and evaluate effective techniques to favorably influence prescribing (e.g. target drug programs, formulary projects).

Patient Care Activities:

Confers with medical personnel concerning care and treatment of patients regarding diagnosis and drug therapy selection; interviews patients to obtain information regarding drug use, drug allergies and dosing regimens; monitors drug therapy of patients for medications prescribed and/or laboratory tests ordered to detect adverse drug reactions and to obtain optimum therapeutic outcomes.

Assists in coordinating and implementing drug education and promotional programs to accomplish Regional objectives (e.g. formulary adherence).

Provides pharmacy related inservices to physicians and staff as necessary.

Assists with development, monitoring and reporting of drug usage evaluation (DUE) criteria as directed.

Assists with surveillance and reporting of adverse drug reactions as directed.

Provides drug information to physicians, pharmacists and others as needed.

Assists with preparation of drug information materials (i.e. monographs, educational documents, etc.).

Assists with monitoring clinical pharmacy activities, pharmacy quality initiatives and provision of educational services for pharmacy staff development.

Performs pharmacokinetic consultations upon request.

Completes publishable research project.

Performs other related duties and regional responsibilities as assigned.

The residents primary professional commitment must be to the residency program.

Residents must be committed to completing the educational goals and objectives established by the program.

Basic Qualifications:Experience

Education

Candidates must be graduates or candidates for graduation from an ACPE accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or

Have a degree in pharmacy meeting minimum educational requirements for pharmacist licensure in Georgia or

Have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Associations of Board of Pharmacy (NABP).

License, Certification, Registration

Pharmacy Intern License (Georgia) required at hire OR Temporary Pharmacist License (Georgia) required at hire

Pharmacist License (Georgia) within 4 months of hire

Additional Requirements:

Resident must be a licensed Georgia pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date. Residents who are not licensed as a pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date will be dismissed from the program and employment will be terminated.

Residents making application to the residency program must participate in and adhere to the rules of the Residency Matching Program (RMP) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

Some experience with spreadsheets or databases and other computer software preferred.

Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.
