The position may be based out of our Northeast and Midwest offices ideally in Ohio, Virginia, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, or Missouri. This position requires the ability to travel regionally to our offices.Job Summary of Roles and ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for leading staff and managing GIS resources and deliverables in the Northeast and Midwest Mapping & Analysis Department to ensure that work is executed on time, within budget, and in accordance with clients’ requirements and scope of work. The Department Manager is responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of Environmental GIS services in the region, including developing and expanding market segments through services, client management and business development, profit/loss management, personnel resource management, and technical oversight.The Department Manager will oversee the mapping and analysis sections of proposals and cost estimates provided to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower, and appropriate pricing to achieve desired profitability. Additionally, this manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Northeast and Midwest Mapping & Analysis Department including staff training, talent recruiting, development and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and adherence to company policies and procedures. In your role, you will support and help build our environmental project team focused on transmission lines, renewable energy, oil and gas pipelines, environmental surveys, NEPA analyses, and permitting services.The candidate should have an established and successful history of providing GIS services, deliverables, and data workflow for major infrastructure projects with responsibilities that include team leadership, developing proposals and cost estimates, executing projects, developing strategic plans for new business and recruitment, and hiring of key personnel to support the growth of the team. This role will also focus on the innovation of workflow and services that enable other service lines to prepare more efficient and higher-quality deliverables.Essential Role and Responsibilities

Responsible for GIS sections of proposals and cost estimates with varying degrees of complexity. Plan for and participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships

Prepare and execute the department's annual business plan for the Northeast and Midwest Mapping & Analysis Department

Oversee and manage the success of the key department metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability

Ensure that plans and reports are done on schedule

o Monthly financial reportso Monthly labor projections for staffo Safety training goalso Business Planso Employee engagement & recognitiono Lunch and Learns (at least quarterly) held by either DM or staff

Complete bi-annual employee review process for all staff in the Department

Provide mentorship and support to Area Leads and next-generation leadership

Meet with the Regional Manager at least every 2 weeks to discuss Department needs and performance

Facilitate inter-department collaboration on work, QA/QC, innovation, standards, and initiatives

Develop an understanding and be aware of project-related risks. Be familiar with project risk(s) and how to mitigate risk for the Company. Be familiar with Company risk policies

Lead safety efforts for the team and ensure the team follows safety rules and guidelines Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task safety planning for all projects. Ensure required safety training is complete

Model a strong work ethic and commitment to POWER’s culture

Demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to lead by example

Ensure proper quality assurance and quality controls (QA/QC) for all services performed by the Northeast and Midwest Mapping & Analysis Department. Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices

Demonstrate and facilitate a creative mindset: Identify and develop areas for process improvement, look ahead for areas where technology and innovation could be added or may be disruptive

Act as a trusted advisor to theRegional Manager of ENV RAM Mapping & Analysis to assist with running the Environmental Mapping and Analysis Region

Assist with Division and Business Unit key initiatives

Required Education/Experience

B.S. and/or M.S. in GIS, Geography, Biology, Ecology, or related field

Ten (10) or more years of experience in environmental consulting in the utility or energy industry

Five (5) or more years of GIS team leadership

Experience managing staff, projecting workloads, and scheduling work

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Experience with MS Project and document production software

Must be willing and able to travel throughout the department region with potential travel throughout the U.S.

A demonstrated technical competence and project experience in mapping and analysis applicable to industrial siting and licensing or environmental permitting projects
