Job Summary:The role of Manager, Category Strategy is to help drive market share and profit growth through development of go-to-market strategies for brand that are optimized across channels and customers. This individual collaborates with brand marketing, customer planning and sales to improve cross channel assortment, pricing strategy, innovation pipeline and new business development.Responsibilities :Category / Channel/ Customer Strategy & Execution

Partners with Category Development to maintain and refresh the Strategic Customer Segmentation and develop Where to Play and How to Win customer recommendations for Brand Partners.

Partners with Category Development to develop channel customer DSM principles & initial expectations, which are communicated through the Category GTM Playbooks

Prioritizes and reviews Big Bets incremental opportunities and significant investment proposals with Brand Marketing and Brand Finance to advance mutually beneficial Newell priorities with customers.

Leads the monitoring of the DSMP execution of Category Brand initiatives across the marketplace.

Innovation Liaison Between Sales & Marketing

Represent the voices of the customer internally and the voice of the customer externally with Brand partners

Captures and Summarizes customer and sales feedback to inform Innovation execution and future Innovation launches

Ensures consumer and shopper insights rationale exist to support Sales sell in of Innovation

Provides “Sales” consultation feedback and oversight to the development of National Selling Decks for all key Brand Initiatives (Innovation Launches, Sales Funnel Opportunities-Pitch Ready Decks)

Customer Price Strategy

Partners with RGM and Brand Finance to develop annual everyday and promotional retail price points, promotional frequency, desired retail price gaps, key price thresholds by brand.

Partners with RGM to identify negative ROI promotions and identify areas for trade promotion optimization.

Annually communicates brand price strategy to Field Sales by customer channel through release of Category GTM Playbooks.

Monitors marketplace and highlights when competitive pricing strategy needs to be reviewed, challenged or adjusted,

Leads Segment pricing action strategy when required, providing internal thought leadership and preparing sales for customer communication negotiation execution

Maintain pricing guardrails (MAP, LUC, Promo SRPs)

Supports New Business Development

Leverages internal resources (Category Development, Brand Marketing, Brand Finance) to ensure opportunities are “pitch ready” for Sales in the new business development pipeline.

Supports Customer Engagements

Innovation Review (IR)- Participates in monthly Innovation Review, providing Brand partners summary of customer needs and feedback.

Helps ensure Innovation preparation and timelines are aligned with strategic customers.

Managerial Responsibilities (Where Direct Reports Exist)

Leads the Talent recruitment, selection, performance management, and career planning activities for Category Strategy direct reports

Key Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree; required

5+ years of experience with a CPG or durable company, ideally in channel management, brand management, insights, or sales, preferably with retail/ mass channel

Demonstrated experience managing a minimum or $10-20M book of business

Experience working in a matrixed organization with demonstrated ability to partner with multiple teams to achieve results.

US retail customer knowledge

Experience working with syndicated POS and Panel Data

Strong business acumen with the ability to influence different cross functional partners

Demonstrated ability to calculate manage risk and effectively manage change

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to travel 25% of the time
