Description:Job Description: The Improvement Advisor (IA) will facilitate the work of cross-functional teams that are chartered to deliver significant operational (clinical and non-clinical) improvements. The IA will help develop, improve and implement processes and procedures meant to improve quality, patient safety, patient satisfaction and overall operational efficiency throughout the Network. The IA will utilize (Plan-Do-Check-Act) PDCA, Lean, and Six Sigma improvement methodologies, robust data/statistical analytics, as well as Change Management in improvement work. Job Responsibilities: Facilitates the work of process improvement teams as they apply all phases of the model for continuous improvement. Continuously looks for opportunities to reduce waste and variation, standardize processes, and capture data more systematically. Shares opportunities to improve the overall experience for the system, patients, staff, and physicians. Continuously keeps oneself abreast of advances in the areas of High Reliability Organizations (HRO), RPI, change management, culture of quality and safety, lean, six sigma, and PDCA. Performs work with a high degree of latitude. Handles the most complex issues and possesses expert knowledge of subject matter. Evaluates internal processes and identifies opportunities for improvements. Establishes key performance indicators for functions being reviewed, evaluates current state, and proposes future state goals and objectives. Facilitates implementation of process changes and tracks progress towards efficiency or goals. Works with all levels of leadership and front line staff throughout the health system including practice/department/division chairs, administrators, desk supervisors, physicians, nurses, secretarial staff, resident groups, desk staff, and all levels of health professionals throughout the network. Produces work products such as team charters, high level process maps, driver diagrams, detailed process maps, data collection plans, A3 tools, fishbone diagrams, Pareto charts, box plots, statistical process control charts, control plans, and other documents required for team success. Participates in root cause analyses (RCAs), hypothesis testing, waste walks, value stream mapping, and other improvement tools as needed. Develops an understanding of the various data sources within and outside of the health system in order to ensure data are collected, analyzed, and reported in as efficient and effective manner as possible Creates driver diagrams to ensure and demonstrate projects align with organizational goals. Supports literature reviews, evidence-based guideline/protocol reviews, and other investigative work required by teams. Assists in the development of team member education materials, tool kits, communication materials, and other documents needed for team success. Other acceptable: healthcare, management science/operations research, organizational development, or related field. Preferred: Master's Degree in engineering, healthcare, management science/operations research, organizational development, or related field. Experience Required: Seven or more years of process improvement experience using Lean and/or Six Sigma tools Experience working in hospitals, home care, skilled nursing facilities, rehab centers, surgery centers, physician practices and other healthcare setting. Demonstrated success in facilitating improvement projects with demonstrable and sustained outcomes. Skills/Certifications Required: Certificate and/or Certification in Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Proven passion and drive to ensuring projects are facilitated well. Ability to manage, prioritize, and complete multiple projects on time and with success (strong project management skills). Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal skills. Excellent organization and time management skills . Provides leadership, coaching and/or mentoring to subordinate group or project team. Ability to transfer knowledge to others (e.g., just-in-time training of statistical process control and other tools). Ability to work in a matrix environment. Ability to work within and across settings that span the full continuum of care (i.e., not just acute care hospitals). Ability to work collaboratively with project sponsors, team leaders, team members, content experts, and others. Ability to learn business intelligence programs. Skills/Certifications Preferred: Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint required; Access, Visio, and Project). Experience with QI Macros or other PI tools.
