We are building a culture where everyone can thrive by owning and driving exceptional results, being humble and leading with trust, serving our customers with excellence, and collaborating and coaching to win.Primary Purpose:Executes the departmental and corporate market and sales plans with a select group of domestic customers, and implements directed strategies in the domestic Intermodal market place in order to achieve optimal profitability and growth objectives for those accounts.Principal Duties:· Maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of the marketing, pricing, transportation, and distribution requirements of the Intermodal market, and making necessary decisions to achieve optimum profit and market share levels.· Implements tactical plans with a select group of customers to support strategic goals and initiatives, with a focus on optimizing volume, profit and market share.· Develops volume and revenue budgeting for select customers.· Develops and maintains strong working Relationships with new and existing accounts in the domestic intermodal markets; develop market intelligence that helps drive strategy and improve Norfolk Southern's competitive position in the market place.· Works closely with the domestic pricing team to ensure competitive and profitable pricing for the domestic intermodal markets vs. competing conveyances.· Develops extensive knowledge of both the marketplace and the transportation competitive factors to make decisions and recommendations to achieve required goals.· Provide regular communication with NS Intermodal Management regarding strategic initiatives and developments underway assigned accounts and all significant matters relative to the partnership strategy with those customers.· Applies knowledge of NS operating and cost structures and corporate objectives in making decisions and recommendations to achieve required goals.Job Related Experience:Minimum Level: 1-2 yearsPreferred Level: 3-5 yearsEducation:Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (BA, BS)Preferred Majors: Business, Economics, MarketingTechnical Skills:· Typing· MS Word/Word Processing· MS Powerpoint/Presentations· MS Excel/Spreadsheets· MS Access/Database DevelopmentSkills and Abilities:· Planning and Organization, often having to meet tight deadlines· Goal Orientation· Negotiating and Decision Making· Customer Service· Communication ability at a high level to drive thoughtful approach to sales and problem solving· Analytical Thinking· Written CommunicationWork ConditionsEnvironment: OfficeShift Work: NoOn-Call: NoWeekend Work: YesTravel Required: Yes 7-10 Days per MonthCompany OverviewSince 1827, Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) and its predecessor companies have safely moved the goods and materials that drive the U.S. economy.
