Primary Role: The Composites/Structural Engineer will lead composites designs across Latham’s nine North American Fiberglass plants. The role will be focused lamination composites design on new products while working with Sales and Marketing on products and innovations in the pool market.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and develop laminate design for new product and innovations

Lead cross functional teams in new product development from concept to commercialization

Conduct FEA on new products and validate results in production and installation

Completion of documentation to show and ensure compliance with both internal and external regulations and protocols

Assisting Process Technicians in troubleshooting in the event of a problem

Presentation of data and reports to senior colleagues and management

Facilitate/support structured problem-solving activities, ensuring root-cause identification is databased and corrective actions are validated and controlled

Develop BOM for new products

Work with quality and warranty on defect reduction

Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications:

Knowledge of fiberglass/epoxy composite material, damage mechanics, and manufacturing processes.

BS/MS in marine/aerospace/mechanical engineering with 3 years of experience in composite structural design and analysis.

Strong understanding of composite structural analysis, failure modes of composite structures, how to set up structural analysis methods to ensure failure modes are clearly understood and margin to failure is quantified.

FEA modeling and analysis experience (ANSYS, NX Nastran preferred but not necessary), as well as applying hand calculations/handbook methods where appropriate.

Experience with SolidWorks CAD.

Be comfortable developing test procedure and conducting structural testing, interpretate the results, and correlate with product performance.

Experience evaluating performance of composite structures in building construction environment where corrosion, wet, UV, soil conditions are a factor is a plus.

Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Word, and Excel (including spreadsheets/databases).

Bilingual (Spanish and English) – Preferred

Up to 25% overnight travel can be expected
