General Description The Environmental/Asphalt Internship at Hubbard Construction Company provides relevant field experience for junior or senior level environmental science students. We are seeking a safety minded, self-motivated individual to fill our Environmental/Asphalt internship. Through an organized and structured process, the selected intern will be exposed to and trained on many aspects of our business operations. The internship will be broken into segments, allowing the selected student the opportunity to learn different aspects of Hubbard Construction Company’s operation. During the summer, the intern will have the opportunity to see the entire process of the operation of producing asphalt and the installation of the finished product. Throughout the summer, the intern will also have the opportunity to travel to other facilities with the Environmental Manager to experience different types of asphalt plants. Key Duties May Include:

Assist Environmental Manager in maintaining compliance with regulations, permits, plans and Company procedures.

Learn the process of permitting plans, recordkeeping and reporting of non-compliance.

Review and communicate pertinent environmental information to the Environmental Manager as required.

Communicate pertinent environmental information to managers as required.

Qualification Requirements

General. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and Experience. This is a summer internship. Students must be enrolled in a college or university pursuing a Bachelors degree in the Environmental Sciences area. Proficient PC skills including a proficiency in various software used such as Excel, Primavera, and SAP. Familiarity or an internship with construction industry practices is preferred. Must be able to understand and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.

Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an Environmental/Asphalt Intern to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.

Employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.

Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner.

Exposure to dust, dirt grease and noise.

Work can be performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring the employee to climb ladders, scaffolds and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways.

Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground and slopes in varying weather conditions.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, based on project need(s) and demand(s).

Ability to work in a fast paced, high stress environment.

Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.

Ability to write reports and analyze raw data.

A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to commute to and from their work location, as well as between facilities and job sites when necessary.

Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Environmental/Asphalt Intern encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.

Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.

Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
