Employment Type: Part-Time, Seasonal (School Year & Summer School)
Work Schedule:
Morning Shift: 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM
Afternoon Shift: 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Approx. 210 days/year (180 regular school days + 30 summer school days)
Position Summary:
The School Crossing Guard is responsible for ensuring the safe passage of children and pedestrians across designated intersections near schools. This role requires vigilance, professionalism, and a commitment to public safety. Guards must adhere to all city, state, and departmental regulations and maintain a courteous and authoritative presence at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely escort children and pedestrians across intersections at assigned school crossing locations.
Monitor traffic flow and ensure vehicles yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
Use hand-held stop signs, safety vests, and other issued equipment to control traffic.
Remain alert and attentive to surroundings and potential hazards.
Report incidents, near misses, or safety concerns to the Field Supervisor and City officials.
Maintain accurate daily time sheets and submit weekly logs.
Attend mandatory annual training and any additional sessions as required.
Maintain communication with local law enforcement and school officials as needed.
Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, including the prohibition of tobacco, electronic devices, and distractions while on duty.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
Valid certification in First Aid and CPR.
Completion of FDOT-approved School Crossing Guard Training (per Florida Statute 316.75).
Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Must be physically capable of performing crossing duties, including holding signs and wearing safety gear.
Uniform & Equipment:
Must wear a City-approved uniform including reflective safety vest, hat, shirt with name and company logo, and weather-appropriate gear.
Must carry photo identification at all times while on duty.
Equipment such as stop signs, whistles, and gloves will be provided and must be used as directed.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and authoritative in high-traffic situations.
Dependability and punctuality.
Familiarity with traffic laws and pedestrian safety practices.
