Job description

Common Health is seeking a reliable and experienced Medical Assistant/ Referral Coordinator who can also assist with other duties as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Patient Care:

- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.

- Perform vital sign measurements, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight.

- Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are clean and stocked with necessary supplies.

- Provide patient education and instructions regarding treatments, medications, and follow-up care.

2. Referral Coordination:

- Manage the referral process for patients requiring specialized care or consultations.

- Communicate with patients to schedule appointments with specialists or other healthcare providers.

- Obtain necessary authorization and documentation for referrals, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.

- Follow up on referrals to ensure patients complete necessary appointments and obtain required services.

3. Administrative Duties:

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical history, medications, and treatment plans.

- Assist with medical billing and coding tasks as needed.

- Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and greet patients upon arrival.

- Handle administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents.

4. Collaboration and Communication:

- Coordinate with healthcare providers, specialists, and other members of the healthcare team to facilitate patient care.

- Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.

- Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers, addressing questions, concerns, and requests.

-Other Duties as assigned.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

Planning and organizing, communication skills, attention to detail, adaptability, customer service orientation, problem solving, decision-making, confidentiality, integrity, stress tolerance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or graduation equivalency degree (GED)

Medical Assistant Certification

1-2 years of relevant experience with managed care referral preferred

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.

Excellent time management and organizational skills

Knowledge of applicable regulations and state and federal laws

Computer skills including knowledge of relevant software

Ability to multitask in a fast pace environment

The person should be multifunctional and have the ability to multi-task; the person should have strong communication skills; must have strong organizational skills; must have strong customer service and conflict resolution skills; must have strong trouble shooting skills; must have knowledge of insurance and medical terminology. Must possess strong computer skills.
