Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Welding Shop Supervisor to oversee and coordinate all welding and fabrication activities within our new shop. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and people management skills, along with extensive hands-on experience in welding and fabricating steel. This role requires a proactive individual who can ensure safety protocols are followed, maintain production schedules, and motivate a team to achieve high-quality workmanship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervision and Leadership:
o Supervise and direct the daily activities of welding and fabrication personnel, including welders, fabricators, and helpers.
o Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to team members to enhance their skills and performance.
o Conduct performance reviews, address employee concerns, and implement disciplinary actions as needed.
o Foster a positive and productive work environment that promotes teamwork and safety.
o Schedule and manage workloads to meet production deadlines and optimize resource utilization.
o Monitor employee time and attendance, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
Welding and Fabrication Expertise:
o Possess a strong understanding of various welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick) and be proficient in performing welding tasks as needed.
o Demonstrate expertise in metal fabrication techniques, including cutting, bending, forming, and assembly.
o Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and work orders to understand project requirements.
o Ensure that all welding and fabrication work meets quality standards and specifications.
o Troubleshoot welding and fabrication issues and implement effective solutions.
Production and Planning:
o Collaborate with production planning to develop and implement efficient production schedules.
o Monitor production progress and identify potential bottlenecks or delays.
o Implement corrective actions to address production issues and ensure timely completion of projects.
o Maintain accurate records of production output, material usage, and other relevant data.
Safety and Compliance:
o Enforce all safety regulations and procedures within the welding shop.
o Conduct regular safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
o Ensure that all welding equipment and tools are properly maintained and inspected.
o Promote a culture of safety consciousness among all team members.
o Maintain compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
Material Management:
o Monitor and manage inventory levels of welding supplies, consumables, and materials.
o Coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely procurement of necessary materials.
o Control material waste and optimize material usage.
Equipment Maintenance:
o Oversee the maintenance and repair of welding equipment and tools.
o Schedule preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure equipment reliability.
o Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs as needed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate's degree in welding or related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a welder/fabricator, with demonstrated proficiency in various welding processes.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
Strong knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques, materials, and equipment.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
Experience with material management and inventory control.
Physical Demands:
