Part Time Caregiver Position
I am looking for a caregiver / personal assistant for myself, a 41 year-old male with ALS. I was diagnosed 12 years ago and plan on being around for a long time! I am a writer, love sports and enjoy going out with my friends. I am on a ventilator and have a trach, so the individual must be able to transfer without a lift - 170 lbs.
The ideal candidate will be smart, compassionate, and professional. We are very patient and understanding, but we also expect the best from our team. This position needs someone who is organized, reasonably tech savvy, teachable, hard-working and able to show initiative. He/She must have health care experience, either in home health or hospital. RN degree preferred. This is a position that requires quick thinking and response, ability to handle stressful situations and likes that no two days may not be the same. I am looking for a mature individual with life experience who appreciates boundaries and can multitask. My daughter is a huge part of the mix and this person must love kids and love to play!
Work day could include any of the following duties:
Dressing
Transferring
Toileting
Personal grooming/showers
Preparing smoothies
Laundry
Making appointments
Driving accessible van
Running errands
Feeding (tube)
Attending meetings, events, or sports
Light housekeeping
Childcare (partial custody of 5 year old daughter!)
The schedule is two or three 12 hour shifts per week with opportunities to pick up more hours as needed. Salary is commensurate with experience and education.
