Several PACT-L Coach/Study Liaisons who are seeking long term part-time roles are needed for a large education project in Pinellas County.

Pay: $40.00/hour, with approximately 120-160 hours of work from July 2024-April 2025. Hours will vary depending on the number of teachers the coach supports.

Full Job Description

Provide training and coaching to 10-12 local social studies teachers, grades 6-9, (5-6 control, 5-6 treatment) implementing PACT (Promoting Adolescent Comprehension of Text), an evidence-based history content-literacy intervention.

Serve as a liaison between the research team, treatment teachers, and control teachers for the duration of the study to ensure that study procedures are carefully followed.

Training and Coaching Responsibilities (July-April)

Attend professional learning sessions. These include:

4 half-day, virtual sessions on PACT (July-Aug; with other coaches)

Bi-monthly to monthly 1-hour virtual coach meetings with study team to receive support and provide updates (Aug-April; with other coaches)

2 1-hour virtual coach booster sessions with study team (Sept-Jan; with other coaches)

Pass coach certification requirements following training (July-Aug; with other coaches).

Conduct in-person training for 7-12 social studies teachers on how to use PACT (1.5 days, Aug-Sept; treatment teachers only).

Attend andco-facilitate in-person trainings for teachers on assessments (0.5 days, Aug-Sept; treatment and control teachers)

Schedule coaching cycles with treatment teachers (Aug-April).

Coach 7-12 treatment teachers who are implementing PACT (Aug-April). Coaches adhere to coaching protocol to conduct:

3 virtual or in-person pre-meetings per treatment teacher; 4 in-person classroom visits per treatment teacher, in which coach will model, co-teach, and/or facilitate PACT lessons for teachers; and 4 virtual or in-person debrief meetings per treatment teacher.

Audio record and upload recordings of each pre-meeting and debrief meeting (Aug-April).

Submit an online coaching log after each pre-meeting and debrief meeting (Aug-April).

Track completion of tasks and submission of data in an online tracker (Aug-April).

As needed, conduct additional coaching sessions with treatment teachers with low fidelity (Aug-April).

Complete a coach survey near the conclusion of the study (April).

Study Liaison Responsibilities (July-April).

Develop and maintain positive relationships with treatment and control teachers.

Organize, distribute, and collect blank paper/pencil student assessments (e.g., pre-test and post-test) and assessment-related materials (e.g., student class rosters) to treatment and control teachers. Approximate timepoints:

Pre-test: One week before Unit 1 start date

Post-test: One week after the end of Unit 3

Collect, organize, and ship completed paper/pencil student assessments (e.g., pre-test and post-test) and assessment-related materials (e.g., student class rosters) from treatment and control teachers to the study team. Approximate timepoints:

Pre-test: 1 week after assessment completed.

Post-test: 1 week after assessment completed.

Assist in administering online assessments.

Pre-test: One week before Unit 1 start date

Post-test: One week after the end of Unit 3

Delayed post-test: One assessment, 12-15 weeks after the end of Unit 3

Assemble and distribute PACT curriculum materials to treatment teachers (Aug-Sept, immediately following training and before pre-testing)

Conduct pre-testing, post-testing, and delayed-post testing assessment check in meetings with treatment and control teachers using study-provided protocols (Aug-April). Includes:

1 Pre-testing meeting

1 Post-testing meeting

1 Delayed-post testing meeting

Track treatment and control teacher implementation activities and assessment dates in online tracker, including pre, post, and delayed testing dates (Aug-April).

Assist treatment and control teachers’ in submitting audio recordings (Aug-April).

Collect and enter cost-study data from treatment teachers during coach debrief meetings. (Aug-April).

Qualifications:

Masters’ degree and three to five years of teaching experience or a Bachelors’ degree and ten to fifteen years of teaching experience. Other combinations of experience will be considered.

History of excelling in prior teaching positions, particularly with content literacy.

Strong understanding of evidence-based practices in literacy instruction.

Knowledgeable about reading processes, assessment, and instruction.

Prior successful experience leading professional learning communities, conducting professional development, or coaching elementary, middle, or high school teachers is strongly desired.

Ability to facilitate dynamic training, strong communication skills, and comfort speaking in front of groups.

Demonstrated punctuality, preparedness, organization, and flexibility.
